as per^
Struggling to get hotel/airbnb for an upcoming event so looking at other options.
Car would be locked, key never going in the ignition, or is this still drink driving?
TIA

If the key is still "on you" or at hand I would say yes, you're likely to be arrested if found in the car. I'm sure someone will clarify this soon with more experience of the law than me

not drink driving but you would still be legally in charge of a motor vehicle .

its also against NCP policy

For safety reasons you are not entitled to remain in your vehicle in the Car Park or elsewhere in the Car Park except for the purposes of parking or removing your vehicle.

I believe there is a similar issue with motorhomes. Yes, you can be done for DD.

I would imagine the issue would come up when NCP find you, wake you up and try to move you on, but you can't because you're drunk hehe

I've often wondered this in advance of having a few drinks in London - it's the only place I visit where I park at my local station and get the train to my final destination - however have always decided on either not drinking or getting a taxi home and collecting the car the next day, just to be safe...

When we were young and daft we would drive to a town around 40 mile away for a "night out" and end up kipping in the car, not giving this a second thought! It never occurred to us the possibility that we could have been accused of drink driving / in control of a motor under the influence.
Like I say, when I was young and daft before I got old and dafter

As bizarre as it sounds if key is on your person you can get done for being "in charge". I wouldn't risk it, just get a room.

NCP wouldn't let you stay, but I think you would probably be fine sleeping even with the keys in the ignition, as although the public have access to the car park, it is barrier controlled so may count as private land?

A barrier doesn't stop the car park being a public place and therefore drink drive legislation will still apply.

If the police were to find the keys on you and you were over the drink drive limit then they could do you for it, I would suggest if you are planning on getting drunk you tie the keys to your balls so the police cant find them but you can when you go for a slash!
