Reports of the Greenpeace demonstration at Two Jags's home possibly provide yet another example of the aparatchik abusing its power and the police stretching legislation to cover a situation.

Trespass is a civil wrong, and the police were powerless to prevent the eight Greenpeace members from entering the demesne and erecting signs and solar panels (provided no damage was thereby casued).

It seems the 2Jags didn't like this and a senior police office appeared on the scene and arrested the trespassers under a section (presumably 42a) of the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 intended to protect executives of firms involved in animal experimentation from harassment at home by extremists". The section was introduced by S126 of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 and makes it illegal to carry out demonstrations at private residences, with the intention of causing alarm or distress.

These ‘home visits’, as they are otherwise known, have been a key intimidatory tactic of extremists targeting employees, directors, family and friends at all times of night and day. This offence is qualified by the need to prove that there is or was intent to cause alarm or distress.

Now, Greenpeace reportedly informed the police and a secretary in the property of their intentions (but apparently did not speak to 2Jags wife).

On the facts presented thus far, it is debatable whether a S42a offence was being committed ... but that does not concern our rulers or the senior BiB they routinely order to do their personal bidding. Of course, given Prescott's history of violent behaviour at election time, perhaps the police officer feared for the integrity of his nose. It is worth remembering too, the words of ex-Home Secretary David (wrong side of the) Blunkett in his battle with Kimberly Quinn: "I know the law - I made the law".

Well, given the 1994-2000 Governor, is that a surprise? BLiar loves 'Dubya' so much, it's a wonder that SOCA didn't allow that peaceful protesters could be slaughtered 'pour encourager les autres' - Streaky

It's actually worse than that.

The protestors originally told the Police precisely what they were going to do and that it would be a peaceful protest, and told 2Jags' secretary what they were going to do.

The Police response seems to have amounted "okay, but cause trouble and we'll respond" - fine.

Then there's all this whinging about Mrs 2J being terrified - it's cr*p. It's political pressure put on the Police to abuse laws for the benefit of the Pols.

Well I wouldn't like some punters crawling all over my house and "grounds" (LOL) but if the local police had agreed to the terms of the protest and had not observed ANY breaches of those terms???? it is pure political manipulation of the police "service".

On the front of it anyway.

This ist man who defies party guidelines und stays in most exensive room in most expensive hotel in Cannes und has entorurages staying there ... unde we pay for this abuse of power as well. :ranting;

This ist man who belongs to a party claiming that we are all obese...so they try to persecute us out of our cars ....

In meantime....the front bench tubs of lard are so enormous that some Front Bench MPs end up on second bench

Und he ist proven coward. Frightened by a peaceful protest? What a wus!

If he ist scared by this... then he ist not worthy of place in House of Commmons where heckling und leg pulling banter und sarcasm in debate ist norm.
