I received a copy of our local parish news yesterday. The main news item is that the parish council are looking for 6 to 8 volunteers to operate the speed detection gun that has been provided by Staffs police. Training and dayglo clothing also provided. Anybody detected speeding will have their reg number recorded and will receive a warning letter from Staffs police. Now the bit that gets me is that alledgedly anyone caught three times by these local volunteers will receive penalty points. Is this possible? Has someone at the parish council misinterpreted the rules. Surely you can't get points for this!

Disclaimer: I've got no objection to speed enforcement within village limits as long as its only the actual 30 zones being monitored and I am thinking of the children

My Dad's wife just got one of these letters advising her she had been caught speeding by a civilian speedcamera operator in a local village near Leighton Buzzard.

Apparently she was seen doing 32 mph!!!

They are not going to take it any further.

Why send out warning letters for doing a speed that is not even worthy of a ticket?

Points cannot be issued by misguided civilian do gooders. However police/scamera partneships may divert "resources" (of oppression) to areas where a high number of speeders have been spotted by these civilian busybodies. If caught by police or scamerati then obviously points can be issued, livelyhoods ruined, homes lost etc.

Volunteer yourself, get hold of the kit and doctor it.

I'll do it! Might have some time on my hands shortly. Boy they'd better get their typing fingers flexed for all the letters they'd be sending - cyclists, joggers, badgers, pigeons, cats, motorised wheelchairs, pushchairs, zimmer frames.... nothing would be safe from my tyranny. Cars?, oh, only if they were driving like a tit.

I'm going to have to scan this and post it up! It definately states that after three warning letters points will be issued!

32mph is over the limit, and that is a summary offence. Just be grateful!

Oh how sad that the number is more important than the principle. Excessive speed can be lethal, but exceeding an arbitrary limit is not the same thing. Now we have the latter standing in for the former, because it's so much easier to measure.

Don't just ban shooting at people -- ban guns. Don't just ban stabbing people -- ban knives. Don't just ban hurting people -- invent thought crimes. Don't just ban terrorism -- ban the thought of inflicting terror. And don't just ban dangerous driving -- ban the use of speed. It's all the same thing. Control the thought and the intent rather than the effect. And then demonise the thought/intent so nobody can fight back without being called an apologist for murder/racism/terrorism/driving. Don't just ban wicked actions -- ban free thought.

You have to admit that they're succeding, though.

People being encouraged to sneak on others.

What an utterly revolting development.

..and as for those who volunteer...

They started this "community speed watch" round the local villages in Somerset.

First strike you get a letter.

Second strike you get another letter and the Police will keep an eye on you.

Final strike and the local Police will actively try and catch you speeding Not quite sure what they mean by that.

It's actually very funny watching the old dears with the speed gun if I'm in the Tiger. It's quite loud and sounds like it's doing 60+ in 30 limits. Their faces as I cruise round the bend at 29mph in 1st gear

It has nothing to do with me really. She is more than capable of kicking up a stink I am sure, but i am also sure she won't bother. Both her and my dad have six points each, so they are not keen on scams but seeing as she is not getting prosecuted this time she doesn't really care.

Step one. Volunteer
Step two. Go to a local council meeting and note down the number plates of all the local councellors.
Step three. Report the local councellors as having done 35 in a 30 zone.

They'll soon decide it's a waste of time...

but don't you think they'd then just make something up against you whilst letting off old Jimmy at 50 in the 30 because he's a good bloke and always stands his corner up the golf club......

I got ticked off many years ago for speeding in a wheelchair It was a motorised one... I tinkered damit...needed the speed as had to chase after twin kitten toddlers at time. Local BiB was not impressed...

Now ... got my legs back und my youngest kitten likes to be perambulated at speed in her Rolls Royce of a pram.....

Me me me me me........I want to be hated by everyone, stand on the side of the road and look like a dayglo member, persecute people who are just going about their everday business/livelihoods.

Who do they think they are kidding, complete toss.

Sign up and then use the gun to see what your mates can vmax at.
