Can any PHers give me some help with this scenario?

I triggered a safety camera when driving through a variable speed limit zone on a 'smart' motorway.

It was late at night, the overhead gantry signs weren't lit (indicating 70mph NSL), and I was only doing 65mph.

Have these cameras been known to go off on their own, without a speeding offence actually being committed?

Otherwise, what happens if I receive an NIP? Will it show photographic evidence of both the prevailing limit and my speed?

I know I wasn't over the limit, but I haven't had a speeding ticket in almost thirty years, so I'm not sure how it all works nowadays.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Peege

There was a camera near Junction 24 on the M25 that used to flash at random up until a couple of months ago. Saw it happen several times, once when there was no vehicle on the opposite carriageway early in the morning.

As the poster above said, if you were under the limit don't worry about it.

The cameras can flash when there is no offence. They do this when the limit is detected as having changed.

Any violation record from these devices will have an image of the signs at the time of the offence included.

Why the panic? If you were under, get on with your life.

It's also a very public way of showing that there are cameras on that stretch of road, resulting in most drivers keeping their speed down.
