Fylde Police "This little darling fancied himself as Colin McRae when taking his dads Subaru out for a spin on a tranquil spring night on Mythop Road in Weeton.
The only issue is that he isn't Colin McRae, he is a 17 year old who had recently just passed his test with little driving experience. He lost control on a bend and went head on with a van with two builders inside.
On a serious note, its quite clear the chaps in the van suffered minor injuries because they were both wearing their seatbelts so please take note and belt up as its someone else` mistake that may cost you dearly."

- team4 #immediateresponse officers were called to the scene, along with ambulance colleagues. The driver of the Subaru was arrested and the chaps in the van taken to hospital with luckily minor injuries. It quickly emerged his dad didn't know his lad had swiped his keys when he was out.

I am not clear on something here.
The article states that the kid swipes his dads keys while his dad was out, and that he got charged with aggravated vehicle taking?
Doesn't aggravated theft mean that violence, or at least the threat of violence was used during the theft?
No, it means that the driver caused injury to someone or damage to another vehicle or property whilst driving the car without consentThe article states that the kid swipes his dads keys while his dad was out, and that he got charged with aggravated vehicle taking?

The offence of taking the vehicle with aggravating circumstances would be separate to the offences surrounding the accident such as driving without due care, exceeding the speed limit, no insurance etc.
So please tell me how taking a vehicle is the same offence as crashing it?
There is an assumption that he was driving dangerously and it was he that caused the damage rather than the van that may have been overtaking on a blind bend.
Either way he's in bother.
