Sold Van, multiple parking tickets

Evening all,

Sold my van back on 27th February to a trader who left me with the yellow slip to send on which I duly did. Before anyone asks, yes, this was definitely sent back to the DVLA.

Money received, van gone, slip sent and thought nothing more of it. Now arguably I should have noticed that I hadn’t received a notification of a change of keeper but I simply didn’t think about it.

Roll forward to coming back from my holiday last week I opened 3x parking tickets from various parking places stretching the length of the M4 for this van.

I’ve contacted the buyer who has told me “it’s not his problem, he’s sold it on!”. No avoiding all calls.

Any ideas of what I can / should do?

I’ve contacted the DVLA to make them aware but what can I do about the parking tickets etc?

Do you have the receipt for the sale to the trader with their name and address details?

Did you claim any outstanding 'road' tax back?

I have a receipt, 3 witnesses (as the transaction happened at work), it was cash sadly (£1,100.00) so no bank transfer and whilst I haven’t checked I fear the CCTV would have lapsed / been written over.

The receipt however is the traders company name of that make any difference.

I do have a text from him stating that he was “on way for log book” as I didn’t have it in the morning he collected the van.

Just write to the firms/councils with the details of the guy who bought it.

Re tax, this van was paid monthly for tax and it didn’t cross my mind to check that I was / wasn’t paying for it.

you can register a sale online on the Gov.UK site. Elminates this nonsense.
