Not received Notice of Intended Prosecution
Discussion
Hi Guys,
In March I was pulled over by the traffic police. I don't recall being handed anything, and certainly can't find anything, but surely by now I should have had something in the post?
The cause for concern is I have had a mail redirection on which, whilst seems to have been reliable for me, I guess is an obvious thing to consider.
How long do they have to issue the Notice of Intended Prosecution? And should I contact my local police (my license would make it London), or presumably Kent Police where was at the time of being pulled over?
Thanks!

Only certain offences require an NIP. Sometimes if reported to court, you won't be given any paperwork at the roadside either.
It's likely you were verbally read out the NIP at the time of the stop therefor nothing needs to be posted. It can take up to 6 months before any possible court action.
What was the reason for the stop/What was the offence?

If you are expecting to be prosecuted then NIP sorted. In March I was pulled over by the traffic police. I don't recall being handed anything, and certainly can't find anything, but surely by now I should have had something in the post?

You will probably get something in August.

If you were charged with the offence at the time, there will be no NIP. Your waiting period could be anything up to six months for anything further to appear.
He won't have been charged (unless he was taken straight to the police station!) but the talking to *was* the NIP, ie they're putting him forward for consideration for prosecution. It *could* also take longer than 6 months, it is 6 months to lay a case before the court but as long as they have hit that then depending on the court schedule it could take longer before the summons is sent out and still be within time. In reality however I'd say its unlikely to be more than 6 months but you shouldn't just assume because 6 months has passed you're off scot free.
Similar situation to you, also looking for advice. Police pulled me over with the speed gun before christmas, I'm thinking October or so but i don't have the date, 52 in a 30(f
king roadworks and dithering idiots)
received a letter today (the first letter) saying basically, because i haven't paid anything already i have to pay £811. No evidence, no information on the offence, no date or absolutely anything. I'm guessing these would have all been in any previous letters but as i say, received absolutely nothing so far.
Advice anyone? He pulled me with a speed gun, read some s
t out, i'm guessing this notice if intended prosecution, didn't give me anything and i've heard nothing until now..

I have no idea how you'd prove it, but I would contact the police authority in question.
I managed to find a phone number and after a long wait managed to speak to someone. They confirmed the above - it can take 6 months to get anything. There was nothing at the processing department yet so I will continue waiting!
The offence was 71mph in a 50mph zone. I've only been done by a camera before, so like you guys have said, I guess the NIP was the face-to-face bit.

The letter gives details on how to pay over phone and email, but yet to appeal/get more information i have to send them a letter. wtf :| I've emailed the e-mail address to pay and basically asked for more information and tried to explain the situation.
I'm going to write up a letter basically saying the same thing and get that sent; also in the process of e-mailing/setting up appointment with citizens advice bureau
