Petrol pump cover fell on my car
Discussion
Hello.
Filling up at a Texaco in Manchester and pulling the hose out caused the pump cover to fall over and hit my door.
I might have lived with it if the staff member (says he wasn't the owner) that came out had been pleasant but he quickly and aggressively denied there being any marks on my car. There are scratches but they are pretty minor.
He then started rubbing the area with his fingers. I told him to stop as that could cause scratches as well. At this point he started becoming more aggressive saying that he hadn't scratched my car!
I followed him inside the shop and asked him to calm down and stop being aggressive and tried to explain that I hadn't said he'd caused the scratches, just that he might have caused more and you shouldn't touch other people's cars.
He wouldn't give his or the owner's name so I have to call today.
So, I'm thinking of pursuing a complaint but reckon it's pointless complaining to the garage owner.
Will Texaco care about this?
Am I likely to get anywhere if I push for the scratches to be sorted out.
I've got plenty of pics of course.
Thanks.

Sums it up really, take a deep breath and think if you really want to spend a whole heap of time and effort on this. Personally, I'd be polishing out any minor scratches and moving on. Blaster72 said:

I know, I know but it was Saturday and I'm still miffed!Scratches are small but right through.
Once had both wing mirror covers and indicators ripped out by a car wash at the shell, I know its a sin but I was on my way to a meeting....
Woman comes out with some superglue and blamed me for folding my mirrors in as per instructions.
I repainted the mirror covers and got on with life

I once managed to hold a retractable filling hose with an insufficiently firm grip and it retracted at speed, the nozzle falling from my hand and taking out my reversing light as it went. Got a replacement off ebay for 23 quid. I suppose I could have taken the garage to court for having an unreasonably retractable retracing hose but I didn't bother.
I know it's fashionable to blame the OP but if I'm reading it correctly he's not saying it was the pump but the pump facia/covering that fell off.
That doesn't seem like something that's under his control, unless there's a suggestion he should have inspected the pump fascia to check it was clipped on correctly, like we all do.

report the staff member and suggest they might like some training in customer service?
Not your job to advise staff about training BUT get hold of the most senior person at Texaco H/O & make a darned nuisance of yourself. Confirm complaint in writing with pictures cc car mags. etc - you never know some journo might pick up the story. None of this will atke much time & effort & if no result than as suggested move on. You're right, it's a real corker of a story that...my car got a small scratch from a petrol pump and the garage man wasn't very helpful...McGraw said:
Yes! Knew I would get blamed!
The pump cover that is supposed to be locked fell off when I pulled the hose out.
Staff member was an aggressive tool when he came out to see what was happening.
All totally my fault.
You have not been taking lessons from our Premier league boys. Did you not roll around on the floor, hold your head/shin, and gesture at everyone? The pump cover that is supposed to be locked fell off when I pulled the hose out.

Sorry, but after reading this bit, I'm with the petrol station guy. We're all here because we like cars. Wanting to keep the things we pride in good condition is hardly a bad thing.
