Beware! Unmarked Police Bike on A49 Cheshire - Black Yamaha
Discussion
Had the unfortunate expericence of discovering the bike following me through the flowing curves of the A49 above Whitchurch, had an extra set of blue lights. No high-viz, no white helmet. Black Yamaha. Very sneaky.
I suspect he was after the bikes that frequent this stretch, but couldn't pass up an opportunity for more points...

You mean you were speeding and got caught rather than them passing up the opportunity for more points. I suspect he was after the bikes that frequent this stretch, but couldn't pass up an opportunity for more points...
It's been around about 12 months or so, I had it following me last year and something about it seemed "off", realised the mirrors looked "wrong" and when he overtook me as I turned off (near Cheshire Police Headquarters) I realised it was the blues on the backs of the mirrors
I think they may have 2 actually, I think there is a grey one and there is at least 2 unmarked X5's and an unmarked 3/5 series BMW that I've seen around

Ahh how I miss that road and the roads around there.
Yes Cheshire Police, do (or at least) did have two of these (not sure if they have been updated in recent years, but I did have one caught on my dashcam some time ago and did a double take).
They regularly are around that area and heading towards Chester.

They had a mobile speed trap on the A556 a few miles before Sandiway too. Hoping I was being sensible enough to get away with it, but was showing high 70s.
It's there a lot - on one side of the road or the other. I always think it's a strange location for a speed trap as although it's a derestricted dual carriageway you don't often see cars going mad down there, and I'm sure a lot of people think the limit on the road is 60 (as it is a bit nearer the Manchester end). It'll also often be at the bottom of Kelsall hill - where the dual carriageway ends so the limit drops.
Years ago I got done on the A500 from the M6 towards Nantwich - cop, not wearing Hi-Viz, wit a tripod was on a bridge, but offset and with trees behind him and the evening sun behind them. He was invisible until I was very close and I was bowling along a deserted motorway standard dual carriageway at 85. To be honest, that slowed me down as that's the only thing I can do to avoid being caught like that. I've since seen them under the bridge, in its shadow, so again hard to see until too late.
There do generally seem to be a lot of cops out and about in Cheshire - I drive all over the UK and rarely see the Police but get back into Cheshire and they're everywhere.
