A mate of mine was involved in a collision where the 3rd party reversed into him then drove off.

As there was no damage to my mates car (Landrover Defender) and he didn’t get the reg number of the 3rd party he didnt do anything.

A few days later he gets a call from his insurance company saying he was involved in a collision and he was to blame (so says 3rd party)

A few days later he gets a NIP through the post for Driving with undue care and attention,Leaving the scene of a accident and failing to swap details.

Unbeknown to the 3rd party my mate has a dashcam fitted which shows the 3rd party reversing into him,Also shows my mate pulling over at the scene and getting out of his vehicle.

My mates insurance company have seen seen the footage and absolved him of any wrongdoing.

As the 3rd party blatantly lied about the incident,Will his insurance company and/or Police do anything about it ?

Yes/No/Maybe

Unhelpful I know, but given the squeeze on police resources they might not be able to put much effort into some chancer making up a minor allegation.

Depends how seriously they're minded to take the provably false accusation, they might go after them especially if they think it will discourage others from wasting police time. Has your mate provided them with the evidence?

Insurance is one thing. Alleged traffic offences are quite another.
All of those alleged have to be pursued against the driver, not the RK. They could be different people.
Given that the third party drove off, the police will have no information as to who the driver is.
What your mate has received will be a S.172 request to the RK to provide that information.
Failure to respond within the required time frame is not a good idea.

It can't do any harm to mention that he has dashcam footage which will disprove the allegations.
They may want to view it before bunging the file in the NFA bin.

Paperwork from Police has been sent back with details of dashcam footage.

They were quick enough to send out NIP so hopefully they may go after the 3rd party(not holding my breath though)

I would expect the police will be helpful here! If the idiot had just made a claim they'd probably get away with it, but making a false police report is taken seriously!

At what point would this become PCOJ, there seems to be plenty of enthusiasm to pursue such cases.

The police have shown they are happy to do something about it by sending him a NIP. The minimum I would expect is for them to now do the other driver for driving without due care and attention once they have the dashcam footage.
