WHo the heck made the NSL 40mph
Discussion
Back from a gentle drive along some large B roads out by the East Yorkshire coast, and am gently simmering with frustration.
Who the bl00dy h3ll told the entire world that the new NSl was 40mph? Every single car was doing it, and oddly enough, got annoyed enough to wake themselves out of their lathergic trance to flash me when I decided that my car was capable of doing 60 on a safe empty road.

They think you're a lunatic just because you drive a sports car, I get the same thing from the flat hat brigade. We've got a road here in Weymouth called ridgeway hill, it's a steep hill that splits into two lanes to let the faster cars pass. The amount of people that stay in the outside lane because they see a bus half a mile away is unbelievable.
Relax and enjoy their anger as you overtake
On my regular journey, I bet I overtake 20+ numpties every journey now, and it's only a 20 mile stretch.... Still, my overtaking skills have improved
Strangely, yesterday I was overtaking round a sweeping open right hand bend doing about 80+ and plod was sat in a layby watching. I slowed and carried on and he did precisely nothing. It's not all bad.

Ah, you didnt know it was a BH then?
I expect most of them were just happy to be moving at all. And of course it IS the default NSL now if you are on a route frequented by HGV's on any day of the week. Also on some counties (Surrey for example) where they seem to have decided the locals are too stupid to be allowed to drive at anything faster than 40.And I bet that when they entered a 30 limit they continued at 40 ... but of course you couldn't confirm this, only that they then pulled away from you
.
Yesterday late afternoon I followed a Volvo through a 40 limit. My B2 indicated 29mph! When the 40 limit turned into NSL (single carriageway and no safe overtaking opportunities ... and I was in the Tiv) he speeded up to 46. Back into a 40 limit and he pulled away as I slowed to 40 (occasional BiB with LASER over crest of a small rise). I caught him up in the 40 when his speed had dropped to 34. Then into another NSL (single carriageway and again no safe opportunities to overtake) and his speed rose to 52. Then into a temporary 30 (28 weeks of roadworks, and occasional visits by BiB with LASER) ... I sat at a B2-indicated 30 - the Volvo pulled away (I estimate he was driving at around 40). After about a mile and a half the temporary limit ends and a 50 limit begins. I closed on the Volvo after about half a mile, his indicated speed was 38! And once more, there were no safe opportunities to overtake so I was stuck behind him for another two miles before I turned off.

I've had this happen. come up behind numpty doing 40 in an nsl. overtake ( shakes his head as i go past)
come into 30 limit ( small vilage past a school)
I slow to 30, numpty overtakes me doing 40 and carries on doing 40 past the school, sweet shop etc ...
fecking unbelivable... as soon as its back to nsl he's still at 40 !!!!!!! blat past again to shaken fist from the flat capped t0$$er... never saw him again after that though as it was nsl for miles

It may be that they now believe what certain camera representatives are saying, and I quote, when talking of speed control "...because it slows down teh average speed of traffic, this is proportional to the incidence of accidents..."
In other words, the flat cap fist shakers probably believe they will crash less if they bumble along at 40mph.
If it wasn't so damn pathetic and laughable one could get pretty bl00dy angry.

Confession time;
today I got stuck behind someone, apparently braking for NOTHING in the middle of the road, and then @27MPH for the next 2 miles, as he stopped almost completely, in the road to turn off in the end,
I was able to draw his attention to this fact, by way of a friendly toot on the horn, and shouting at plonker, causing a further abrupt stop in the road as he turned off.
I live in scameraville where every road has a silver speed camera placed thoughtfully on its pavement anyway, but theres no reason for a blanket 27 even on the outskirts none the less

Last week, in the 1.2 Clio I was getting so bored that I thought it was time I made progress with a long term plan to get past the the HGV that was obeying it's speed limit. As it happened I only managed two overtakes before the next roundabout, but the first overtakee tried that game and got most upset when I dropped into the (now car length - down from 3+) gap in front of him.
it's just when the s speed up as you try and overtake that it gets scary!
OK, so he didn't like being stuck in a queue either, but if I can make [rogress in the Clio, I'm sure he could in his Mondeo, even with four people in it). Even if he couldn't, making life dangerous for everyone else isn't all that bright.

Don't worry. The 40mph numpties will all soon be off the road. Grumbling because the GATSO that has been in the same place for the last three years has now got 'em for the fourth time...
Whereas the properly observant driver that slows for hazardous areas will, like as not, spot the speed camera and will not be caught.
Which is why we will shortly find that the only place the mobile scameras get used is long fast curves on A roads and motorways because the observant drivers will be the only ones left and those Scamera Partnerships will still be wanting their money...
