Expensive haircut - parking ticket
Discussion
Received my first parking ticket today and unsure on how to deal with the matter so looking for some advice.
Car was parked in a restaurants car park in town. I hold my hands up and knew I shouldn’t of but it’s one of those where “everyone does it”.
Left the car for 15 minutes to get my haircut and on my return found the penalty notice on windscreen.
With it being a private company do I simply cough up and pay?
£60 within 14 days
£100 within 28 days.
I have seen threads on here with regards to private parking charges where people have ignored them and they’ve “gone away”, is this something I should consider?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can get all excited about it, and try to fight it. You might even win on some trivial technicality.
Or you can accept that you dropped a hairy one, parked where you shouldn't, pay it, and make a mental note for the future - while thanking your lucky stars that this is the only option available to the restaurant since clamping and towing were banned.
The one thing you REALLY don't want to do is to ignore it and hope it'll go away. It won't.

Do not do anything until they write to the registered keeper.
All Parking Services are a real tinpot outfit, and pay a bounty for each ticket that is issued, so rarely are they compliant at that level - people are just too greedy for the £30 bounty to actually care about compliance.
They do not send a Notice to Keeper, instead send a PCN reminder - so it's not compliant with POFA to hold the keeper liable. They are with the BPA so at least you have the POPLA option.
If they want to obtain money from you, make sure they have their own house in order.
It's up to you. Pay the money it's gone. Write a few letters and it's also gone.

look at it from the other point of view.
You have booked a table for a nice romantic meal with the misses. Unfortunately when you get to the restaurant you can't park there because it is full up with cars from people using the hairdressers. You then have to park half a mile down the road and walk back in the pouring rain with the misseses nice dress getting ruined dragging in the dirt and wet.
One irate misses, one ruined outing, one new dress to buy.
I'd say £60 was a bargain!

ks - all of mine have, just couldn't justify the cost of the stamp for the appeal and subsequent communications.Follow steve's advice - it'll be non-compliant in some form and you'll be off without issue 99.9% of the time.

The restaurant ends up losing business because none of its customers can find a parking space......You have booked a table for a nice romantic meal with the misses. Also the reason for issue is stated as "Left premises" - these are never upheld at POPLA for various reasons.
The location you were parked at, I believe, is owned by a private individual who has sub let one building to the restaurant, the other he has developed into flats and offices. The parking contract I understand is with the restaurant, not the landowner.
Up to you though - is your time worth more than the outstanding charge?

The evening ends up in a nightmare of blame and recrimination, she reminds you of that time you had too much to drink at the work's Christmas party and danced too closely with the boss's PA, you tell her that her arse looked fat in that dress anyway, and that you never want kids and the following day her best mate who never really liked you persuades her to see a solicitor and initiate divorce proceedings, you lose the house and half of everything you own, and begin a downward spiral into alcoholism, a crack habit and homelessness. Happy with that haircut are you, OP?

It was issued at before the restaurant was open for business - I doubt it had much impact.
Probably not, but (and I genuinely have no idea myself) how would one of the parking enforcement companies work if the business owner said to only enforce the restrictions during opening hours? Would they turn round and say "tough luck, you're on your own as it's no longer worth our while", or would they still take the business?Zetec-S said:

Given that virtually all of the PPC offer their services for free and only earn revenue from issuing parking charges, I doubt they would consider such detail as opening hours. S11Steve said:

I wouldn’t be paying unless I really had to and I don’t think you do have to.
