This from my local newspaper in North Wales, personally I'm not a fan of racing, but that aside it's so easy to get to these speeds nowadays. As pistonheads there is always the temptation to hoon. Let this be a warning to all of us. 2 year driving ban just think what impact that will have on work, money & life, let alone not being able to drive:

I like an enthusiastic drive from time to time, but 117mph on any public road is a bit stupid. And filming it on dashcam and then posting it on YouTube afterwards is the mark of a fking moron rofl

No sympathy from me...

Having seen all the average speed camera's now popping up around Bala, it won't surprise me if Evo is next. Fine by me, crap road anyway. I've been banging on for years that there are other better roads around NW.

Could be worse. If they were doing the same on bikes they would likely have a prison term too.

Did the original video have the speed shown or has the Police somehow calculated the speed based from the footage?

It's odd that they think it's fine from a legal viewpoint to do that kind of speeds and not run past a hidden mobile speed camera.

For legal fun, they should have stuck to the limits and just tried to NOT STRADDLE THE WHITE LINE!

Just as importantly as the outright speed it looks like they were taking some liberties with corners too looking at the section of the clip from 1:05. If they'd failed to notice someone coming the other way or pulling out from the verge at the wrong time there'd have been an even greater impact and not only on their lives!

And take note of this, where people can report speeders with their dashcam footage.

Yup, even when the camera car was at the same location as the overtaker it was a blind bend ffs. This could be part of why they got such a big fine & ban.

Nothing wrong with straddling a (broken) white line or even positioning fully offside of it helps improve the view, smooth the drive and if there is no oncoming obviously.

It's very easy to calculate speed from video footage. All you need is a couple of landmarks and a stopwatch.

I would have no issue with using the whole road - but they are offsiding and overtaking into right-hand blind bends - all that does is close down the view and cause accidents wink

I would suspect there was a great deal of 'bad driving' contributing to the decision...
I am not sure that the headline figures of average speed 110+ etc. can be accurate - how can a car be doing an average speed of in the 70s / 80s and then a few minutes later an average speed of 110+ surely they must have been doing in the 130s - 140s to gain an average speed in the 110+ range? so the averages were presumably over a very short space - i.e. what they really mean is that they hit speeds of xxx

I don't think the speed itself on those roads in those conditions was necessarily technically unsafe (albeit, clearly illegal) - but combine it with other traffic and bad road positioning and it magnifies those faults...

even better though - two were in BMWs, one in a Kia smile that should help their marketing!

They deserve long bans just for being stupid enough to upload the footage to youtube. I'm sure most of use here have exceeded the speed limit, and probably to a banable level when overtaking in a 60, but we wouldn't do it in front of a police officer.

The lads were obviously proud of their efforts, hence the YouTube footage.

They are clearly deluded. It was st driving by 3 muppets (I'm not just talking about the speed).

Unfortunately, 2 of the 3 are in the RAF and may now lose their jobs.

Stupid speeds and more stupid uploading evidence on YouTube, but I didn't see any 'racing'.
