Dart Charge PCN - Appeal?
Discussion
Evening all, looking for some advice regarding a Dart crossing PCN received today.
Was heading from Horsham to Kings Lynn, for a wedding at the weekend. Made my first crossing Friday 3rd. Forgot all to pay until late the next night (on my way back to the hotel!) so I did not pay until 0155am (5th) Sunday morning.
Return trip was Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately I forgot to pay again, it was the following Friday (10th) I realised this and paid immediately. I have two email payment receipts from Dart Crossing.
I know I should have paid sooner, yes I saw the many signs, unfortunately I just forgot during what was a busy weekend.
I received the PCN today (15th) for the FIRST trip. Which was paid 1hr 55mins after the deadline. Can I expect a second PCN?
I will call them tomorrow to offer an explanation. There is a form for appealing in writing. If I do this... any advice to what I should write?
Anybody been successful in appealing a Dart PCN?
Regards,
Chris

Do the letters say you are being fined for paying late or not paying at all? points I'm getting at is could the letters have been generated between crossing and paying?
I forgot to pay once, left it for about 6 days then remembered, paid it and never heard anything.
it could be 2 offences that has triggered it. Call them, explain you have paid they might back down.

OP might forget this advice though

For anyone’s who interested, this is all sorted now. For clarity, the PCN I received was for my first offence, which was being ~2hrs late paying the fee!
The fact I paid, meant that I’d effectively made an advance payment for my return crossing later that day. The fact I then forgot to pay that one for another 5 days mean I have one free crossing left to use within the next 12 months.
So I paid the £2.50 penalty over the phone and all is well.

Nice to see that this was all sorted out so easily, and with common sense being applied - Makes a nice change in this day and age!

I cross once or twice a year, and always forget to pay.
I'm surprised how forgiving they are, in this age of huge transgression taxes and inflated pcn charges I got a warning letter and just had to pay the £2.50.
I do wonder whether private parking companies would generate more revenue with this approach rather than trying to fleece £100 using bogus threats from solicitors.
I've now set up an account with £10 prepaid, which should last me a few years worth of crossings.

Having forgotten to pay once (and they let me off for a first offence) I set up an account and put all the family cars on it just in case.
between us we only go that way about 3 times a year, but it's worth having it set up to avoid the risk of forgetting - it's easy to have it in mind when you're crossing, but by the time you've driven a few hours it's gone from your head, they must get loads of people who forget.

Same sort of thing as the others. I crossed twice in the same day during a busy work schedule on a Friday. Completely slipped my mind that I had to pay by end of play Saturday once the weekend kicked in... until the Sunday morning.
I set up an account, put some money on it, then rang them and asked (super politely) if I could do anything to avoid the PCNs - the chap I spoke to was extremely helpful and pleasant - I think partly because it was my first offence and partly because I had set up an account to avoid future misdemeanours he let me pay for the journeys there and then and assured me no PCN would arrive. None did.
Now keep an account topped up and have also added the wife's car to it as well just in case I borrow it for work in the future.

I set up a Dart Tag when my door window would not open! I converted that to a Dart account with both cars, and auto top-up when down to £10. between us we only go that way about 3 times a year, but it's worth having it set up to avoid the risk of forgetting - it's easy to have it in mind when you're crossing, but by the time you've driven a few hours it's gone from your head, they must get loads of people who forget.
Moved now, but keep account open for rare visits to Kent. I also have a Mersey Flow account - unfortunately the discounts are no that great.
I made a payment on 2 trips, due to an IT problem in collecting payment,my card co advised me to make payment again. I then got penalty for £75, I appealed,DART rejected this with no investigation, claimed that my appeal was out of date and doubled penalty to £145. I went to next stage of appeal, DART did not contest case and my appeal was granted.
