Just received a call from the Tracker company for my car advising they had received a call from a finance company advising them I had sold my car and requesting the tracker be cancelled.

Anyone heard of this before, is it an error or a potential scam for theft?

I got caught last year with a sim swap fraud so always a bit cautious these days?

Sounds like a scam, ring your tracker company to confirm though.

I have called them and they advised me of the call from a finance company.

How does this work? How do they know which company to call? Do you have a sticker on you car saying "Protected by........"?

If it's being targeted I'd be looking to get some extra protection for your car in the short term, or finding a secure location to "hide" it.

It almost certainly is a scam, but the tracker company is genuine/innocent - it's the "finance company" that's fake, calling up to get the tracker turned off.

I wonder how they identified the tracker company in order to call them?

There are not that many tracker companies in the UK. I would place my money on TRACKER.

That was my first thought - why cancel a tracker on a random car? Sounds like somebody knows where the car lives (home / office etc) and is after it.

I think the make of car only uses one company for all their trackers.

Or the finance company have the wrong registration plate, or the tracker company got the wrong registration plate.

Or just stick with scam. Suggest tooling up, brother.

The tracker company told me correct registration, correct VIN, correct name but there is no finance on the car, time to tool up I think
