So, you have your average GATSO (not the new kind of forward facing doobries), I'm a bit of numpty when it comes to this, so bear with me.

Are the cameras digital, or do they have actual film inside them? the reason behind this is quite simple.

Would it be possible to creat a device that would wipe the film, ie magnets etc, its all very well people setting fire to them, blowing the granny out of them, but surely there is away of simply deleting anything that was in there in the first place.

I must warn you that I did have couple of pints at lunch, and this may sound ridiculous, if so I apologise.

Also, if they are digital pictures, is there no similar kind of way, such as a device that could electronically charge them, create interference etc, that would have similar result. Italian Job, fat bloke walking about chucking toy trains in bins and wiping out the CCTV cameras gave me the idea.#

Seems a lot more efficient, and inevitably harder to trace/prove, should you condone this sort of thing....

used to be film. very few are now.

you can (supposedly) set off a camera with a tin can on a bit of rope by swinging the can around your head. presumably this only works in 30 limits if it is even true.

Nope to all your questions!

Gatso's are wet film devices in that its like your disposable camera, you take it in and get it developed...same thing.

Monitrons are digital, no films in these.
One way to defeat them is to buy a cheap laser pointer off ebay 2-3 quid whatever, then go find a monitron.
Point the laser pen at it, (you can be a couple of hundred yards away if you like).
Tape it to a suitable post, wall, tree etc and activate it.
Tape the button ON and aim it directly at the lens of the monitron.
All itll see is a blinded red image as the laser overpowers the ccd inside.
Then once youre happy youre on target, just walk away while they lose revenue.
Dead easy and if they send out a police crew to find the laser, youll be miles away sipping a beer or ten.

Same idea will work on specs too!

Ps, if you used an auxiliary battery to power it, it could remain active for days...thatd really piss em off.

Forget all of that nonsense.

You need some very fine aluminium powder (as fine as you can get) available from a glassfibre suppliers, some red iron oxide (superfine) again, available from potters suppliers. Also, you will need a sparkler to set it off.

The reaction follows thus:-

2Al + Fe2O3 ========>Al2O3 + 2Fe (hot enough to destroy a speed camera and its contents.

Following a bit of stoichemometry:-

54 Grammes of Al powder will react completely with 160g of red iron oxide.

Ideally you want about a kilogramme of molten iron to do the job so working backwards (roughly) approx 540g of aluminium powder as well as 1600g of Oxide should see you melting a camera with ease.

Put the powder in a flowerpot (terracotta) with a hole in the bottom (sealed with something which will easily burn away-like a bottletop, tinfoil, etc) fill the pot up with the powder which you have mixed thoroughly and stick a sparkler into the mix with the wire "handle" cut off. Light the sparkler (gas torch will do quickly) and run like ! The whole assembly should light up like the sun, the molten iron will tap itself through the pot and right through the camera! Yehaaa!!

By the way, this information is not to be used unwisely.

An interesting concept LoveMachine, however, could this not be construed as blowing the granny out of it?

I did lose track around Aluminum Powder though.

Also EMP? I take that as Electromagnetic something? Pulse?

How about knocking out the lenses and then getting some rare protected birds to nest in there?

They do look kinda look like bird boxes anyway.

Whatever happened to the old spray paint over the lens idea? Granted its not as much fun as the thermite reaction but quick and effective...

And not all that obvious. Could be months before they realise everyone is hoofing past at 1000 mph. Flashes everywhere but nothing recorded.

Seems like a lot less hassle than Love Machine's idea.

But illegal for you to move them in the first place too I would imagine.

How amusing to have them living in a £30k designer 'battery'

I saw a spate of bin baggings a while back.

Black bag over the top, taped around the pole.

Simple and effective - and everyone knows it's out of action.

I heard a good method was to spray over the flash unit but not the lens. Spray the top on the scamera bright yellow to look like the standard procedure but allow some 'overspray' onto the flash.

Why? Because the scamera pratnershits won't be able to find anything wrong with it - it's detecting the speeding cars, it's taking photos, but they won't be able to see anything or make out any numberplates and they'll have to let it go as they can't prove anything. Still, doesn't involve any actual destruction.

Oh yeah - I hear that if something contains a hard drive its files can be severely affected by a simple fridge magnet. Not 100% effective but a complete blackout would be suspicious. However, if some of the files go missing - who's to know they were there in the first place? Anything to harm the flow of revenue that I see is going on pointless speed humps outside my house

If you destroy them, it gives them a much more clear message if you ask me. The arguments about wasting £30K of public money don't stand up. If people as a whole attacked the things en masse, the message would be got across rather quickly. A bit of spray paint or vaseline on the lens isn't really achieving much, when the scamera operator comes to change the gubbins, he will see through "the glass bits" and immediately sort it out with his acetone and rag-problem solved. If the whole thing has been melted by liquid iron at 2600 degrees and the plastic bits melted by radiant heat, it says WE ARE NOT TOLERATING YOUR BULLYING.

Are you going to allow yourself to bge bullied? I am

Have you seen the way all the local papers and news programmes report all that? Public Enemy Number One.

Unfortunately too many people have swallowed the scamera stuff whole and any visible destruction brings public derision on anyone who does it. You've got to be more subtle.

No, you've got to not get caught. Remember, 99% of people don't think for themselves. Anyway, I wouldn't do such a heinous act, especially with this trail of internet droppings leading to me.

How about a paint ball gun through the sunroof as you saunter past?
