Speeding ticket / 14 NIP
Discussion
I've been a silly boy, 35 in a 30 in a works pool car. Offence took place on 18th July and the NIP has been received to the work address dated 21st Aug. I've been off on paternity so wasn't informed until i returned yesterday!!!
Sounds to me like the NIP was issued too late but that may be me clutching at straws. The vehicles are leased I believe but this reads as though it's the first letter they've sent, not that it's been sent to the lease company and they've identified my work as the keepers.

If a notice of intended prosecution is required then it must be served on the registered keeper within 14 days of the alleged offence (where the day of the offence is day 0). If the lease company is the registered keeper then check with the lease company. Alternatively, the police will have that information and you could ask them about it. In any event, if you have received a request for driver infomation then you must return the completed form as failure to do so is a separate offence. Use Signed For post.

I suspect that wording aside, where they probably just use the same wording, the only way of knowing it was yours would have been to send it to the lease company first - so unlikely to be any issues with timing...Cheers for the replies - I've told my boss they need to confirm it was me driving and I didn't know why they hadn't already done so.
Bad Company - I'd think it's obvious that I'm trying to avoid the possibility of points to be honest. I have two previous offences, 3 and 4 years old in Oct / Nov this year. Since those I've calmed down, one I did the course but the first was 3 points. If I get points now then I will end up with 9 points as far as I can read it. Not ideal but my own fault I appreciate.

Looks like you’ll need to be driving like ‘Miss Daisy’ for a while.Bad Company - I'd think it's obvious that I'm trying to avoid the possibility of points to be honest. Can you check the V5C to see who the registered keeper is? If it's work and the NIP was indeed received at the date you set, there might be a defence.
But given the massive delay in offence and NIP, it seems most likely that the lease company was the registered keeper and then set off the chain that went to your work.

For totting, your penalty points would be valid for three years from the date of the offence. If one set of points was acquired four years ago, these no longer count for totting purposes.
Likewise, if you took a course for a speeding offence committed more than 3 years earlier than your most recent indiscretion, you would be eligible for another.

If you did the course then there’s no points for that. However, it looks like you did the course under three years ago, so you’ll probably end up with an FPN this time. That means you’ll have 6 points with one lot not counting towards totting up anymore and dropping off your licence (if you send it in for removal and pay a fee).
Effectively in a few months you’ll have 3 points on your licence and the opportunity to do an SAC again. You will have one more year of declaring the old points, but that will probably make bugger all difference to your premium.

So your 3 points are 4 years old, so zero in fact. The course didn't carry any points. So in fact zero points at the moment. Then this one will be a 3 pointer unless they find a different course for you to go on. Here's hoping. But as far as I can see 9 points it isn't.
