Thus I now have their client list and email addresses (as all do mine!).
Shortly followed by an "oops please delete the last email" request.

I'm not particularly concerned but what could the IFA co. be letting themselves in for?
Will the admin who made the mistake still have a job?

regards,
Jet

The ICO could fine them. They should have internal procedures for handling data breaches which i imagine will determine what happens to the person who did it.

Even if "bcc" is used will all the recipients be shown if "reply to all" is hit?
Im sure I recall a case of a bloke sending the same e-mail to all his mistresses using "bcc", and one hit "reply to all" & he got found out biggrin

The ICO fined Glocesterhsire police £80,000 for something simmilar, but with arguably greater consequences

Likely a telling off for the employee and that’s that.

Thanks for all the thoughts.
My IFA (employee/partner of the company) is a family friend, when we next meet I'll ask if there were any consequences.

I've made one cockup with company emails sending one intended for supplier a to supplier b. Fortunately nothing too serious. Bit of banter from supplier b and a mild criticism from my boss and that was it.

I got one of these which was someone replying to complain about the previous sender using cc instead of bcc...I replied direct to him using the phrase "Pot, meet kettle".

He didn't reply!

Nope, you're wrong. Firstly, you'd be unlikely to hit reply to all if you were the only recipient, as far as you knew. And if you did, only the original sender will get it.

If I'm sending an email to loads of people, and I don't want them to know about others, I send it to myself with all my intended recipients in BCC.
