I’m sure this has been answered many time before but I could find no post via the search function.

My wife has just shown me a letter she has received regards her being photographed travelling at 44 in a 30.

Rather amazingly, I have absolutely no experience in these matters and 44 in a 30 strikes me as bloody stupid, especially given the road in question.

So, my question is: Will my wife he sent to prison or is this sadly just another thing that I have to stump up a load of money for?

I’m guess that this much over the limit is going to see her having to go to court?

Too fast for a course, but comfortably within 3 points & £100 territory.

If you pay a £100 fixed penalty and comply with the FP conditions then this won’t go anywhere near a court. Licence to be endorsed with 3 penalty points.

Thank you.

So she replies stating she was the driver and she will then receive a £100 fine and 3 points? Done and dusted?

Pretty much that, yes.

Does she have less than nine points on her licence already? If so it's as the other posters have said. If it's nine or more it's different and a possible ban under totting up.

I was hoping for 6 months peace and quiet rather than forking out £100 and I assume more expensive insurance. wink

Careful, I once had the moral high ground after my wife got her first speeding fine. 7 days later I was done for 49 in a 30. Back then it was £60 and 3 points.

Plus, has she passed her test more than 2 years ago? If not, even more grief if 6 points are accumulated in that period.

Tell her you'll take the points for her and get her to send back the form stating you were the driver. Then go to the police and tell them she is insisting you take her points but you feel very uncomfortable with it and have decided to report her.

She then gets done for perverting the course of justice, and providing you are prepared to lie in court and tell them it was all her idea and you never agreed to it, you should get your 6 months of peace. hehe

I got caught doing the same as your wife, albeit on a road that appeared to be 50, with no street lighting, no houses or anything obvious. I was 35 at the time and have never had any points of my license so just took the 3 points and 100 quid fine. Went back to the road a few months later and still couldn't see any 30mph signs if you took the route I did.

Anyway, rang my insurers at the time and told them, they said SP30 makes no difference to premiums, which it didn't. Come renewal time there still was no difference.

I think you will find a built up area is 30mph unless signed otherwise.

I think you will find nowhere did I state I was in a built up area, not that I need to justify anything to you. I was caught speeding, I took the fine and points.

When I got fined £100 & 3 points my insurance went up as did my wife's as I'm down as a second driver on her insurance.

As I suggested, some premiums may be increased, some may stay the same, some may reduce - too many unknowns to say with confidence how a standard 3 pips will affect A N Other's premium.

True, mine didn't go up noticeably either, but that was about 10 years ago.
