Saw on the Twitters that WMP carried out an operation at a primary school in Washwood Heath Birmingham. On one single morning they clocked up 51 offences of unsecured children, two of no insurance (one had driven 0.3 miles from their house to the school), one no licence, five dangerously carried passengers, one obstruction, one of vehicle in dangerous position, and three with no MOT. That was with four PC's/PCSOs, and they said they likely missed quite a few more.

The mind just boggles... This was just one single morning at one single school. If people can't even be bothered to keep their own children safe, I can't imagine they're overly bothered about any other road users all that much.

I always patrol school times if you can. It is a surprising hotbed of stupidity and dodgy cars.

Only yesterday I spoke to a bloke stopped on the zigzags at one side of the school... continued around the block and found him stopped at the zigzags on the other school road 🙄

And then minutes after that passed a Hungarian guy on his mobile at a junction, pulled over just past it however he decided a marked Police car wasn’t enough of a clue to stop doing it... provisional licence.

Having seen the standards on a school run surely no-one can be surprised at this?

Don't know if its a coincidence or not, but since changing schools, where the parents are much friendlier and nicer, the school run driving and parking standards seem much better.

The only highlight about doing the school run myself years ago was watching other parents attempts at parking, and general roadmanship

I had to help one mother once park her car as she simply could not get it in the space after around ten minutes of trying, I just wish back then I had a phone that could have captured her attempts, they were truly hilarious.

I would say the more priveleged the people the more entitled they feel to do what they want

School run is basically Mad Max with fancier cars.

The school bus (sorry, coach) from a public school stops at a bus stop adjacent to where the lane leading to our house joins the main road. There's an SUV of some sort that turns up to pick up one of the pupils who gets off there, and it uses the entrance as a lay-by. My wife's had words with the sour-faced occupant (I prefer a blast of the horn) who simply stared at her, to quote Bill Hicks, "like a dog that's just been shown a card trick".

Im struggling to conceive of a worse environment for all round bad driving than the school run.

Everyone in their bubble, usually late & stressed, who care about their child and their child alone getting as close to the school gates as physically possible without actually being parked in a classroom. Blocking roads, drives, people, other cars, emergency vehicles are all secondary considerations, if they're considerations at all. The child must not have to walk any distance at all, because they're already late anyway because it's impossible for the parent to get up earlier, or for the child to arrive and have to wait more than 5 seconds to be able to get in.

Have got a son in junior school myself and you do see some idiocy there. When he started parents used to be able to go up the drive into the smallish car park before and after certain times in the morning/afternoon as it made drop-off and collection from wraparound club easier. Of course you got people who ignored the timed restriction part and just drove straight into school when 'running late'. Someone also bent a lamp-post in half and anonymously buggered off, so now no parents' cars supposed to be allowed on school grounds. That hasn't stopped several texts this year having to refresh people's memories as is still happening apparently, and just had a letter out about parking/dropping off on the zig-zag lines. It's not like people don't know, I guess they think the rules don't apply to them, and it's "just a minute" or whatever.

Outside of targeted stuff though, I guess the chances of getting caught doing anything is so low it doesn't really discourage some people. Heading into work yesterday morning and guy in a Transit with two children in school uniform. None of them wearing seatbelts, and him puffing away on a fag.

Ref the post above and parents driving into the school car park .

I've seen staff standing at the entrance to car park ,solely there to allow teachers in and to keep the lazy parents out.

All rules seem to go out the window with the school run. The parking situation is the one that gets me. We park at X and walk to the school. Takes a few mins, but the amount of people who park on the double yellows and zig zags on the corner is astounding. People also drive up onto the pavement on that corner to park, leaving no walking room.

It's always the same type of people too. Scummy overweight mothers and fathers whos kids are fat too because they can't be bothered to walk a few extra steps (I'm fat too btw, but at least I park and walk!)

No driver seems to know what this means when I drop my daughter off . . . every other cars does a U turn. It's not as if it's a long 'zone' either and there are plenty of places to turn after it !

There was an outcry of hatred at the local council when they parked up a CCTV car next to a local school and ticketed all the bad drivers. lol.

Should buy st loads of them and cycle them around the schools around here. Would pay for the car and driver in a couple of days.

doo-gooders can whinge about entrapment or targeting "working mothers" all they like.

there's a little private girls junior school/first school near to me.

On a morning you can barely get through the road with it being lined with Land Rover products- dumped wherever, on whatever road markings.

Problem is, all the yummy mummy's spending ages outside the school discussing the benefits and cons of live axles as they mount the perilous 6" kerb - they take so long doing it, it blocks the traffic.

Hang on, have I got the right thread ?
