For those that use the M25 be careful of closed lanes, I have received an advisory letter from Met Police advising I have been identified between J24 & 25 of using red X lane about a month ago. As I use the M25 daily I really cant remember that specific day.
Definitely will be very careful in future. A warning to us all!!

Sorry, but that sort of approach won't work in here... the holier than thous won't get to have their say. You need to start defending yourself and throwing your toys out of the pram so they can have their 10 cents worth!

Wasn't there a thread on here recently about someone getting a ticket for a really quick change, i.e. Red X comeson 500 yards away, and Ping! ticket.

I'd put my hands up to a red X , but you are reliant on them being honest about keeping to the rules...

Seems quite a sensible approach from the Met too.

I'm interested to know how they knew. Is there a photo? Which cameras are being used to spot the red cross infringements?

I would imagine the same ones doing the speed stuff. Possible OP was spotted by trafpol or was shopped using someones dash cam which is the new Stasi apparently!

Quick google suggest you are correct the HADECS stuff is doing it all these days, speeding and lane closure enforcement. Probably not a bad thing, also as others have said a mature first warning from the Police.

Pleased you just got a letter of advice. That is how it should be at first. I am interested if you received any advice literature? There is little point in just an advisory letter without a leaflet/web link. I know we all should know how these lanes operate, but advice should follow. I constantly bleat on here about the current-day lack of public information snippets on TV (we have enough pop up adverts, surely we could have one of these too!).

The letter contained a leaflet explaining overhead signs and an invitation to complete an online survey, trouble was this offence happened about 4 weeks ago and I honestly don`t remember, was hoping there would be a comments box but sadly no.

Letter explains need for emergency services access - which is fine but as wee all know reinstating the hard shoulder is an obvious choice, removing it was extremely daft and dangerous.

Was on the M25 couple of weekends back and the inside lane showed closed. So everyone moved over to the other three and queued. Of course opportunists decided an empty inside lane is a perfect opportunity to drive unhindered and undercut the traffic, but of course then with them lot cutting in at the front when they get to the obstruction causes all sorts of stop/start behaviour, if they didn't do that we would all get into line and at least drive through a lot smoother.

Anyway, given this can expect all those cars/lorries who ignored a number of red Xs to be getting letters in the post too soon!

Driving through a red X is pretty dangerous.
A middle lane hogger is irritating.

Personally I'd prefer that Police focus on the former rather than the latter.

I'm not sure why you've received an advisory letter instead of an S172 - we've been receiving NIPS on these since early this year.

More than 14 days since offence so no point NIPping?

At least it was unlikely to have been a cyclist wink
