She was at least in lane 1 while not overtaking, so at least that makes her lane discipline better than 90% of drivers on the M60.

True....but average speed in the middle lane is akin to an Italian Autostrada. WIth Dolly Dewdrop pooling along at 30mpg, that may be the safest place.

Surprised the police statement supports lorry drivers who don't know how to ease off the gas or use their brakes, or eyes, on a motorway:

""People who drive at 30mph on the motorway are putting people at risk. If an HGV is doing 56mph on a limiter, they are not going to be able to stop."

and this one.......... "South Africa is not on that list so she will have to take a test."

Maybe should have checked if Ghana was on that list as well. Still, all the bloody same those countries anyway. Sometimes what you see posted on Police Twitter feeds is alarmingly inept.

Certainly not if they are watching an art film on the laptop.

What a weird statement. Why would a lorry need to stop? Surely they'd just need to slow from 56mph to 30mph? I'd be very surprised if a lorry driver was incapable of looking far enough ahead to shed 26mph from their speed.

Oh yes it is. Not like a newspaper to let the truth get in the way of a good story.

"If and HGV is doing 56 on a limiter"

You can tell these boys don't get out much anymore.

Indeed....how do they cope with motorway congestion where every is suddenly doing 5mph?

It was a direct quote from the PC, so it's not the newspaper that needs to fact check in this case.

Why? Is the HGV driver likely to be blind? If he is a professional, not watching TV, on the phone, eating or drinking, gibbering to some Albanian chums, he/she should be observing well ahead & know if there is a slow moving vehicle ahead.
There is no minimum limit so driving at 30mph is OK.

South Africa is on the licence exchange list, yes. If she had a full ZA licence, she'd just exchange it for a UK one after 12mo to be legal.

But she didn't exchange it, so didn't have a valid licence.
The reason she didn't exchange her SA licence for a UK one is that she didn't have an SA licence. She had a Ghanaian one.

Ghana is in Africa. It is not South Africa. It's not even in the south of Africa. But I don't think a Geography GCSE is a requirement to join the Police.

Driving at 30mph on a motorway is OK if it is what a careful and competent driver would do in the same circumstances. If it falls below that then it is an offence, it's on the list of examples, that the CPS suggest, as being inconsiderate driving.

So what happens if the slow vehicle is hidden from view by another car behind it who overtakes to avoid the slow driver, the next vehicle even travelling at 56mph has to react pretty quickly to avoid ploughing into the back of the slow car.

The only justifiable reason to drive slowly on the motorway is due to slow traffic where everyone is driving slowly, bloody dangerous otherwise.

The next vehicle should be at a safe distance from the one in front.

You’re right - that’s the biggest shocker of the whole story for me too.

She could have plonked around the M25 all day.
