I bought a car a few weeks back to swap engines as mine was knackered. I didn't receive the V5 after about 3 weeks so sent in the supplement slip with a V62 form. Didn't hear anything back from that after waiting another 3 weeks. Rang DVLA and they confirmed that it was still in old guys name and I needed to pay £25 for a new V5. I didn't want to pay for a V5 on a car that I was getting rid of that week. I sold it to a guy in the trade as spares / repair

Do I still need to notify the DVLA that I no longer own it since it was never actually in my name to begin with? I taxed it and insured it in my name to get it home (it was free tax) but I've never actually been the registered keeper of it

As it's not in your name, what exactly do you think Swansea will do when they receive your notification and your name and address do not match what they have on file? They will simply file it in the round basket and move on to the next one in their pile.

Forget about it and move on with your life.
