Had a bit of a incident earlier today at my local supermarket was on my way in I clocked 3 blokes walking in 2 of them looked dubious to say the least the other was a younger lad he wasn't exactly smart but just didn't fit with them and didn't seem to happy.

Walking in past the cash machines one of the blokes was next to the younger bloke as he took out some cash and as I past he handed it to him. I then heard him say "is that all you have" and asked him to put his card back in to check his account.

At which point I turned around and stepped in asking the young lad if he knew this guy he replied "no" I then in no uncertain terms told the guy what to fking do. He then processed to face up to me saying he did know him and so on eventually he just ran off shouting his mate. I left the young lad who was no doubt a vulnerable adult with a woman and a member of staff who witnessed what was going on after I started to kick off.

Just wondering what sort of charges would this come under when they get hold of them?

Extortion? Obtaining money with menaces? Or whatever they call it nowadays.

No idea but top marks for stepping in there, hopefully the authorities can do something about it, possibly not the first time the lad may have been targeted.

Well done for stepping in, so few people do these days.

Let's hope they get caught & get their just desserts.

Did you leave your contact details as a witness?

Well done to the OP.

That would be recorded as a Robbery if the lad only handed the cash over fearing the consequences of not doing so.

The world would be a better place if more people acted like you did here.

Could have been a risky thing to do though - you never know whether these scum are carrying a knife etc...

How do you know that the kid didn't owe money to the other 2 and after getting sick of being repeatedly fobbed off by promises to pay it back 'soon' they frog marched him to the ATM to get them what they were owed? Things aren't always what they seem.

Robbery is defined as using force to steal

or

putting someone in fear of then and there being subjected to force..

Might be difficult to prove the latter and satisfy the CPS of a realistic prospect of a conviction
