I got a ticket many years ago for picking up a mobile, switching it to answerphone. £25 fine- no points, the offence being 'failure to maintain proper control of a motor vehicle'
Officer then drove off and answered a call on his full size radio phone in his Range rover!!!!
1 rule for 1......Ho Hum.....

I spend a lot of time in various cars (up to 30 different ones a day) so a plumbed in car kit isn't an option so I use a Bluetooth headset (Motorola HSB10) all the time, it is brilliant though the battery life isn't as good as my previous Jabra job.
A Bluetooth headset is also useful when you're not driving but doing something which requires the use of your hands (oo-er) like building exhibition stands or unloading vans.

Shucks - that TOTALLY slipped my mind - must try harder....ROFLMAO
Spend alot of time on the road, so have a full Orange fitted kit. Its pretty good. As yet the BIB have never pulled me, as far as I am aware the reason we have them is that they are legal.
Quite a few manufacturers now offer the fully built in kit, I have seen the Merc one working, thats great as it runs through the stereo, so you never touch the phone, its hidden in the centre arm rest.

I have one of those bluetooth hands free kits - Jabra SP100 I think. Speakerphone but BT and works well. Actually its crap with a Siemens phone (Siemens phones are crap in general) but a Nokia its a treat....
I really dont like headsets and the like and a full plugged in car kit can cost a £100 or more. The Jabra is portable and less and £50 (got mine at a computer fair for less than £40!). Should the time arrive, I will get one of those Nokia jobbies, but at the moment dont really need it. I tend to not use the phone while driving unless absolutely necessary....
Now, using a phone on the train - thats a different matter

Sony blue tooth and a sony ericson p800 phone
(which has voice dialling)
VD works well below 50 mph but above that the background noise means the phone won't recognise the voice.
I seem to be constantly overtaken by people at warp 100 who moments later pull off into left carriageway and slow down again to 60 odd on the motorway - when i re pass them they are always on the phone....

, but I don't spend much time on the phone in the car. There is driving to be done.
