A Mercedes C350 with full set of lights and sirens being driven at speed with 3 people in it coming off M40 and heading toward Evesham.

Just an interest really as to which emergency service/department/rank would be driving one?

When the July bombings happened, it was amazing to see how many unmarked security services and police cars there were around.

It could be any number of agencies.

was in Chelmsford a year ago or so and saw a Porsche Boxster (roof up..), sirens whailing, blues in the front windscreen and rear tail lights travelling at speed off the roundabout and down the A414.

Often wondered if it was legit given the rumoured 'must have 5 doors/4 seats' scenario for unmarked cars,

In our ambulance trust (which is Chelmsfor area) there are rules that apply to the official unmarked trust vehicles, like the 5 doors, 4 seats, and now 4x4 drive as well i believe, but we also use a couple of BASISC services in this area, which are usually staff (Critical care paramedics and Doctors) that work on the air ambulance, but that can book on on-call from home if they want to.

Some of them have an actual marked vehicle, but some others use their own cars, and there's an consultant anesthetist that uses his own Porsche 911, which has hidden blue's and two's. You could often hear him approaching the scene from miles away laughdriving

The cops have got an unmarked, 9 year old Vauvhall Corsa diesel 'round 'ere.

It even has wheel trims/ steelies rather than alloy wheels.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

A senior fire office lives around the corner. Until recently he had a TT with blues and twos. He needed to be able to get to major incidents in style when needed. I don’t know which model it was but it was in poverty red.

Haven't you seen the unmarked version of the BMW 3 series saloon ?

It is a bit of a giveaway, given that it is the only saloon with a hatchback tailgate glued to the boot (to meet pixelpeep's odd criteria).

It kinda gives the game away smile

We've got small cars, big cars, big vans, medium sized vans, 4X4 cars, RWD cars, pick up trucks and cars with different numbers of doors, a proper mixed bag.

Mind blown!

Dozens of brand new unmarked Jag XF's parked near my work are used for the local fire brigade, imo they aren't that practical.

I guess they don't have to pay parking if they have the note in the window?

Car fitted with lights and sirens is technically a response vehicle and therefore not subject to personal income tax. Reported earlier this year some head honchos avoiding £10,000+ in personal car tax but FOI found never used in anger.

What's the punishment for fitting a discrete set of blue flashing strobes behind your front grille?

(Just for effect, like.) hehehehe

I think non police unmarked vehicles should have to display FIRE or AMBULANCE/PARAMEDIC/AMBULANCE DRIVER etc signs when on blues.

LED Univisors are starting to be used by some services.
