What speed do you get a NIP
Discussion
The cameras don’t issue tickets. How amazingly efficient that would be. Generally the guidelines for issuing an NIP is as above 10% +2mph but that is only a guideline and not a rule so in theory you can be charged for being 1mph over and there is usually someone on threads like this who will claim that a friend of a friends friend got done for 71 on the motorway etc

Did you ever see the paperwork ?colinrob said:
Yes I did it was a scamera van on polhill Avenue in Bedford it was a couple of years ago, I was more concerned about what the motorway ones were set at as I now always set my cruise at q true 20 in a 20 and a true 30:in a 30
How true is "true" Do you eally trust your speedo that much ? colinrob said:

Everyone knows somebody who got a ticket at less that 10%+2 - yet not once has any photographic proof made its way onto the internet. It's like all these ghost sightings - everyone walks around with an HD camera in their pocket, yet no good footage has ever been revealed....all very weird.
Anyway, would love you to be able to be "the one" that shows this happens.

Did you ever see the paperwork ?Depends on the local constabulary/camera partnership. The 10% +2 is based on some old guidelines, and although it is still a rough rule of thumb for most areas.
I looked at a large sample of fines on our fleet last year as part of an evaluation exercise on fitting speed limiters, I think the lowest I saw was a 24 in 20 zone and a 33 in a 30. Some of the HADECS cameras on the M1 seemed to be set at 82 though.
There doesn't seem to be any benefit to having speed limiters though if they are set at motorway speeds - around 85% of the tickets were for limits of 30 or 40.

I thought speed cameras were a very blunt instrument until I received an invitation to attend a Speed Awareness Course in the City of London: 38 in a 30. My fellow attendees were unimpressed as most were a lot lower, 34 in a 30 being typical. But I was snapped at 6.10am on a Sunday by the museums in West London. There wasn't a soul about. One or two vehicles but no pedestrians. I felt that someone had looked at the evidence and decided that I would benefit more from a course than a fine.
Off Topic - why did two of those scheduled to atrend the course not turn up? The course at that time was £90. By not attending they had to pay the fine and receive the points plus the £90 they paid for the course.
