Traffic lights installed by Amazon outside its warehouse are causing delays of up to an hour, it has been claimed.

The retail giant said it installed the three-way lights in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, for safety reasons.

But other workers in the area said the lights favoured Amazon workers and made congestion worse.

Central Bedfordshire Council said it was a "temporary measure" to benefit pedestrians.

Amazon's 310,000 sq ft (28,799 sq m) fulfilment centre opened in autumn 2015 with 500 permanent jobs.

Am I the only one thinking cheeky barstewards..

I'm sure lots of businesses would like that at the entrance to their spot for going home time.

They're only temporary lights.

The feckers at Astra Zeneca up here got 2 sets of permanent lights put up on an A road to help staff in and out of their site, 24 hr lights for 2 rush hours a day.
Then they shut the site down and the lights are still a permanent feature rolleyes

Anyway back to topic what facilities have Amazon provided for trucks and drivers visiting their depot or do they expect vehicles to clutter up surrounding areas as usual due to poor planning conditions.

Given how many of their trucks and vans block the traffic by queuing up waiting to get into the site at this time of the year, I am surprised they even need these lights to help their staff.

If you raise that with your local authority and/or councillor they may remove or suspend them. Kind of what councillors are useful for.

I live local. The lights are not a problem. The problem is the artic lorries waiting on the main road for access to the site to load/unload that is causing gridlock, as it blocks long stretches of the road effectively making it single lane.

Not sure what the problem is? Temporary lights can be thrown onto grass verges...

Dunstable is ridiculous for things like this and stupid traffic management!

Let’s put 13 traffic lights in less than 1 mile on a route that takes traffic off the m1 when there’s problems, then when traffic people use the back roads to avoid the town centre they block roads to cause more traffic to go through the town centre!!

This particular problem has been cause by the stupid ‘ring road’ circling a petrol station!

They phase lights to cause traffic to stop you going that way, put traffic calming on hills with the give way to the wrong way.

They are utterly incompetent!!

Yep, or your MP. They will look into it properly and raise hell with the council!

Or they won't at all because the lights are permanent and they are the highway authority's own lights. That and it's fully intended to reoccupy Alderley Park.

They're also not really a problemconfused

Especially since the bypass has made that road a lot less busy than it used to be...

They could suspend them rather than remove them, alter the timing so they are green only.

And what would the people still working at Alderley Park do? They also will have changed the timings because it would have likely been operating with queue length loops - so if less traffic is queuing less green time is given.

Anyway, this is completely different to the situation the OP has posted. Those lights are temporary ones and, if anything like the situation we had up here at Airport City, they could be using them to figure out both timings for any permanent signals that are due to be installed, and also timings for the shift patterns at Amazon.

Sorry I don't know the park, I had wrongly assumed that with Astra Zeneca going the park was empty - sorry - wasn't clear.

Even more likely then that they're taking measures to inform permanent signals.

Hows that then ? Traffic management quite often has an operative on site .
