This article says that a future camera demo could be stopped under the Public Order Act.

This bloke is in a hole and hasn't learnt to stop digging.

Police state or nanny state, I can't make my mind up...

I wonder what ECHR would make of this

As for saying slow speeds cause accidents... now I'm confused!

I drive on the M4 from jc10-jc2 every day, and rarely get above 70mph (not through choice). Most days are accident free, and when there are accidents I would say that 80-90% involve lorries or LWB vans...

Didn't think Inspectors had the powers to do that kind of thing. Even if he could, it might be a bit of a PR blunder.

Anyond know the details of the prang?

I believe a Suburu Impreza that wasn't part of the convoy ran up the back of another vehicle, also not part of the convoy. It's alleged that the Scooby was tailgating...

So does speed kill? or does driving slowly kill?

I think we must be told what the 'exact' speed to drive at is...so that there are no more road deaths

presumably this magic speed is somewhere between 56 and 70mph?

Sounds like a challenge to me How on earth is he going to stop that many people protesting anyway?

Just mobilise elsewhere and make the protest nationwide!!!

As I posted at the time you have no right to protest peaceful or otherwise. Just about any group of three or more can be broken up by using a range of laws.

History shows that direct action is the only way to make a difference. 4 rust buckets should have been purchased and parked across all four lanes and left. This of course should have been done simulatanously on at least half a dozen major motorway interchanges.

I guess the accident was at or below 56 mph and nobody was killed.

There you go, nugget crashes at reasonable speed and lives to tell the tale.

What were the injuries sustained in the accident?

I crashed at below 30 MPH and lost 2" out of a leg. As we keep telling you, slowing down isn't the answer, it's teaching people to be observant that will save lives.

Direct action, I like the sound of that

So, don't protest.

Don't organise anything.

Just announce that a particular day is going to be a support the cameras day because everyone knows that 56mph is safer than 70. And arrange for all supporters to meet at Service station A at x o'clock or B at y o'clock.

How could they possibly stop it? 6 vehicles could bring the entire motorway to a halt.

Yes Gents and Gentesses, as you have read in this thread and others, we have been “warned off.”

I am spending the next few days taking legal advice and sending a number of letters to local Tory MPs and Councillors – Wiltshire County Council are still Tory-controlled after the local elections, and the national policy of that party, as we have read in their press releases, is to disband the partnerships.

The local Tories around here are, of course, part of the camera partnership and, as I understand it, the Council delegates are only democratically accountable members of that partnership. (I don’t have a vote to say who runs the NHS or the Police – I don’t expect that you have either!!)

Methinks the local Tories might have some explaining to do …….

However, Inspector Wayne Smith is only in charge of policing the motorway in this part of the world – unless you live in Wiltshire, he’s not in charge of policing your bit of motorway and/or your part of the world.

That being the case then, if anybody else would like to organise a protest in their part of the world, that would, of course, be their own affair …….

Besides – now that this thing has started, it would be very bad indeed for the country as a whole if it ran out of steam

Any volunteers for organising the next protest ????!!!!

Nice to see accident prevention at the centre of our road safety policy...

I always though prevention was better than cure!

Never even come close to having an accident on a motorway when conditions allow speeds that you nab people for . Have I lead a charmed existance...? Must be bl00dy charmed considering the amount of mileage accumulated.

You really ought to get out more!
