Ho hum

car behind me constantly looking at their lap while driving in start stop traffic behind me, almost hit me once,

Should i report ?

or would the TAC OPS officer driving the car have a legal reason to drive like an absolute dick

Skerton bridge today 13:45

Highest standards, dont think so.

Bet if my passenger had videoed him, he would have pulled me over.

Disappointed that you didn’t film them looking into their lap.

Afternoon,

I see this all the time (like many others I'm sure). Some people simply don't get the message, and probably won't until something goes seriously wrong. So annoying and dangerous

Although I have not used a mobile in my hand while driving for well over a decade as always had a car holder and a Bluetooth device of some sort, it is a similar sentiment that has made me decide to take the phone off the dash and store it in the glovebox or arm rest.

Had a TomTom delivered yesterday and will use that instead of using the TomTom app on my phone.

Will will use the voice dialling in the car to make calls and as it will be off the dash wont be tempted to check that email or SMS/WhatsApp.

As you say, eventually something is likely to go wrong - I have decided to change before it does.

That's really refreshing to hear. A shame that there are still some motorists that either aren't aware, or actively aren't being as proactive about this and thinking that 'it'll never happen...".

I don't wish for harm on any motorist but it would be nice if some gave themselves (and the rest of us) the best possible chance of completing journeys unscathed by recognising the potential consequences of their actions

Thanks - dont get me wrong - If i have ever previously checked a mail / text (with the phone in a holder) etc I have waited for traffic to ease off, road to be straight / visibility etc.... but even with that there is a risk. Maybe as I get older I see that risk more despite always been there.

Its the touch screen phones IMO that are the issue now and I think that will move to all the touch screen interfaces we have in modern cars..... even to change the air speed you need to use a touch screen!

Don't use the phone in the car. Simple.

Maybe change the regulation to add in "Must not be in the view of the driver, to be positioned as such is an offence."

Perhaps this would discourage those who drive with a mobile telephone stuck in the middle of the front windscreen. Same for sat nav kit, ban that from the screen too.

It is already an offence to have something on the windscreen anyway.

Should got the wife to, but as it was an armed police officer in a liveried TAC OPS car, she didn't want to.

I was almost tempted to brake a little harder than normal and have him hit me, but im sure it would have ended up as all my fault.

The sooner a ban is introduced for illegal phone use the better. The drivers looking down whilst on the move are not admiring their new trousers. They are on the phone and putting all around them in danger.

Let us not forget: 50 plus fatalities where phone use is a major factor, in 2017.

Can't see that working!

I use a mobile phone based sat-nav. Sits at the base of the windscreen, to the left of the instrument binnacle, and obscures the view of................the badge mounted on the bonnet of my car!

The view of the road ahead is completely unaffected, and once set, I no longer need to touch the phone.

To view the screen simply takes a brief glance - No longer than it takes to look in the rear view mirror or door mirrors, and the road ahead always remains in my peripheral during the split second glance.

So why should I be penalised, because a whole load of numb-nuts can't go 10 minutes without checking their facebook page, or the latest tweet from some meaningless celebrity who is apparently famous they live in Essex? (or Chelsea, or Newcastle, or wherever the fcensoredk these nonentities come from)

I have always used dash mounted holders for phones and satnavs - some phones and devices these days you could hide a large child behind in terms of the view it blocks. I have seen numerous cars where the driver has an ipad as their satnav stuck to their windscreen!

Even when i have been hiring cars for the last 12 months for my commute from Luton Airport I took a vent mount thing for my phone, cant stand the phone been on the window!

Hands Free? As hazardous as a hand held. TRRL research. On the phone we tend to picture the face of the person we are talking to = not on the road ahead.
