Road to the right is 50

Road to the left is ... er ... who knows?

It goes to 30 at the bottom of the hill in the distance.

Top work there.

Well, as the signage can't decide what the speed limit is, there's no valid speed limit, so it defaults to NSL. Which means 30, because street lights.

So somebody thinks it amusing to turn a sign on a post around so that it's facing the wrong way.

Possibly, but never rule out council ineptitude.

Go in Google Earth and have a look at the road further up.

You could be careful and stick to 30 bit if you do 40 and get caught make sure you have a picture handy.

Similar situation on A65 Cowan Bridge south of Kirby Lonsdale.

40mph painted on road but 30mph signs entering village.

Correct, unless and until repeaters show otherwise.

OP says the road to the right is 50mph so that wouldn't be the reason.

Who knows? Not my photo btw, posted on a local FB page, but I've got to drive out that way tomorrow so I'll see.

I was always taught to drive to the lower limit shown. Less chance of being nabbed for speeding....

40, unless overtaking, when it's 30... Solid line y'see, and speed is dangerous, so going slower cancels out the danger of overtaking on a solid line.

30 in the field behind the hedge ?

Never underestimate the retards who work/ contract for the council.

Some 20 MPH signs were installed recently near me.
They were the wrong way round meaning it was a 30 limit past a school and 20 for the rest of the road.
Because thick.

It was a 40 until earlier this year when they dropped it to 30. White painted signs on the road mean nothing legally. They’ll have crumbled to nothing soon enough anyway based on the condition of the road on the transition to NSL Ingleton side anyway.

A few years back one of our local NSL roads had a 50 limit applied through some bends. No problem with the signs but when leaving the 50 zone and at the sign showing NSL one of the local council guys/contractors painted 60 on the road......

Took a couple of weeks before they came out and painted out the 60!

The logical thing to do in this situation is to add the two numbers together. smile
