Took the TVR for an MOT today, got one of the new computerised certificates.

The garage said that it is now compulsory to remove the wee peel-off bit in the bottom left corner with the Reg No and MOT Expiry date, and display it in the windscreen.

Is that right? I don't see anything on the VOSA website.

Doubt it, I didn't even get one at my last MOTs (2 cars - 1 in April 1 in May).

I would do it anyway; because it means you have a visual method of showing you have a MOT to a passing Trafpol and less likely to get pulled.

Good point Iolaire, but I'd rather not put stickers all over the car if I can help it.

The garage are obliged to request you to display it in a prominent place; you are free to do that or bin it if tyou want.

The poor quality stickers will not stick to vinyl trim anyway.

I don't have a windscreen, I like the wind in my hair, the flys in my teeth and the odd wasp up my nose.

They can stick their little bit of paper up my ar*e

Not sure if this is true or not (but assume the Postmaster in my local PO is better informed than I) but he said that with the new MOT he can tell by scanning the barcode on the car tax renewal if my car has a valid MOT?

Hope the technology works - as a civil servant I do not trust any IT solutions developed by or on behalf of said civil service - I know as I have to use the useless things..............

Personally I'm for having proof of MOT in the windscreen.

I don't think I need explain why.

I think this will eventually replace the road tax disc, as we will soon be paying per mile with sat nav black boxes in our cars.

I did a quick search on Google for "new MOT certificate" and didn't see anything relevant.

However, I had to laugh at the paid-for advert on the right hand side. There it was: "MOT certificate. Low prices & big selection. ebay.co.uk"

Haven't yet come across anything that says it is mandatory to display MOT sticker. I am aware that they are looking at doing the same in relation to Insurance so it is maybe coming.

Regarding Excise Licence with Insurance and MOT on a data base then they evntually hope for a paperless issue of the Licence. But remember GIGO so there will be some frowns no doubt.

This link www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/carlgvowners/motcomputerisation/motcomputerisation.htm
and this document
www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publications/mot%20computerisation%20-%20information%20for%20motorists.pdf
tells you that the peel-off sticker is to serve as a reminder of your MOT due date...that's all.

I would expect that any BiB would not rely on a sticker as proof of an MOT when all he has to do is consult the computerised records that this systems provides.

Perfect - that's exactly the answer to the question - it's a reminder not a requirement, so my MOT garage was wrong.

I might still put it on - I just wanted to know if I HAD to.

Not having seen the stickers yet, (car due its first MOT in August), if its small enough, and folk dont want additional stickers in their cars, why not make it a not sticky one, and slide it to the bottom of the Road Tax disc pocket?

I just know someone will dash outside and explain to me why you cant put it at the bottom, but as I am working offshore, and have been for the past 5 weeks, I am unable to view a tax disc to see if this is feasable or not.
