Does anyone know if there is a limit on time for speeding fines in Bulgaria?

Suppose someone in the UK received a notification through the post today that they had been caught speeding in a hire car by speed camera at the beginning of February last year, the letter was dated April last year and states the fine must be paid within 60 days.

Views on this totally fictitious scenario?

My view is that I'd bang it in the shredder never to be seen again.

The only question is if in this fictitious story you left card details with the hire company are those details still valid and could the hire company use them to charge you for the fine?

In this scenario a letter was received from the hire company in late Feb last year stating that details had been passed on and that they had taken their admin fee and it was no longer anything to do with them.

In the UK, Police have to send an NIP to the registered keeper within 14 days but thereafter have up to 6 months from the date of the offence,to issue a summons.

I have no idea about Bulgaria but got a speeder from Mallorca last year and paid the 50 Euros, online, as I might want to go back.

These are old...

One article said 90 per cent of their speeding fines were issued to foreigners which smells of corrupt.

When i was in Cyprus i noticed that hire cars have a different style of license plate to private cars. I assumed this was so the police could more easily single them out for special treatment.

Are you going to return to Bulgaria any time soon?
If 'no' then just stick it in the shredder.

This in spades.

Keep an eye on your statements as you may find your fine been paid by the hire company along with a nice admin charge.

As I said before there was already a letter from the hire company stating their involvement was to pass details on, admin fee of 20 euros charged to the card on record, they have no interest beyond that.

To add to this it was delivered recorded delivery but signed for by the postman so officially the letter hasn’t even been received. I think I’ll put it in a drawer for now. No intention of returning any time soon.

Have you had a fine sent through from the police or just the admin fee from the hire car company?

I had similar in France a few years ago, hire car company charged my card an admin fee to provide my details to the Gendarmes, but i never received a fine. Sometimes the authorities just dont follow up on foreigners in hire cars (sometimes)

EU Cross-Border Enforcement Directive, and its the car owner who is liable, they pass the debt to debt collectors.

Why would they do that when they can just charge the fine to his card as they did the admin fee if it were the case that the owner is fined?
