Flashed in France
Discussion
Not the naughty kind. Anyone know what the current state of play is with being zapped by speed cameras in France? Two years ago I got flashed twice in the same day in Germany and France but never heard anything, just wondering if things have moved on since with notifications, etc. 117 in 110 for the idly curious. No children or kittens were involved.
While it is technically possible for the French authorities to follow up your "offence" in the UK, this requires a lot of paperwork and co-operation and in any event you may find that you were well within the tolerances allowed even assuming that your own speedo readings were accurate. A guide to fines can be found here and you can pay them here. Very unlikely you will hear anything - don't sweat it!
About five years ago I had a hire company charge my credit card for providing my details to the gendarmes because I had been flashed, but I never heard anything further. Presumably when the gendarmes received the details and realised it was a "roast beef" with a UK address, they couldn't be bothered following it up.

Pretty amazing how much better the traffic flowed near Calais with all those silly 90 / 110 zones no longer being "active"
We should all be careful though. Yes, a reported 60 % of the fixed cameras have been burnt/damaged but …
Earlier this month, as I was coming back to Coquelles to catch the train three UK-registered cars overtook me as if I had been driving in reverse (cruise control was set to 130 km/h). They were doing some serious progress.
10 minutes later I can see all three cars being escorted by a police car out of the motorway into a rest area where, I can only suppose, the drivers will have been fined on the spot.
Have been based in Germany since 2017 and the "Calais rally" is something we all do on a regular basis. I don't believe any of my lot have ever been fined in France and we do some serious speed, the 55 km from the border to Calais we take as a challenge to get out of Europe as fast as we can. After the autobahns in Germany, we forget that the French roads aren't as speedy as the Germans. We get more fines IN Germany for speeding than we do out of Germany! I honestly wouldn't worry about it, the French appear to be quite lazy in our experience.
If you get hauled over by the Gendarmes de Trafic for seriously excessive progress, you can expect an on the spot €750 fine and your licence taken away......and if you don't have another driver in the car with you, your car will be impounded. So just because the flashers are not effective, don't assume you can do anything you like.
I got flashed in Nov several times, I was actually trying to follow the limits but for some reason kept missing the speed changes. Maybe not knowing what the speed cameras look like didn't help
It's funny as I am normally very careful and touch wood only have got caught speeding maybe 3 times since I started driving 20 years ago

They're very sneaky - tiny in the middle of the motorways. Also painted grey....It's funny as I am normally very careful and touch wood only have got caught speeding maybe 3 times since I started driving 20 years ago
Doesn't help the speed limit changes very often, OK, usually for a decent reason (IE a junction) but nevertheless...

Apart from those between Lille / Dunkerque and along the autoroute east to Belgium, west to Calais and beyond, where the Gilets Jaunes torched the cameras and then put fluo vests over them.... Me, on the other hand, driving a Lux registered car with a Lux licence, seems to get caught at 5km/h over the limit every.f
king.time. Arse! - because I have to pay it.(I don't get those tickets in the UK, though, so swings and roundabouts, eh.
