'Accident ' / Insurance question
Discussion
Simple scenario.
Car was parked in Sainsburys this morning.
In store tannoy call made - can the owner of car 'xyz' pls come to customer services
Turns out some tit had hit the Mrs' car. Rear bumper / wheel arch damage.
Now, 4 (yes 4...) independent witnesses were at customer services and said they saw the guy driving the car hit ours, then drive off to another area in the carpark to park. They also said when he was challenged by a couple of them, he told them to F off; they also stated he smelled of alcohol. As a result one of the witnesses rang 101 - who said the Police may or may not attend. They didn't.
Not had to claim on a car insurance for many a good year now.
As ours was stationary & locked, I'm assuming that we will be claiming on his insurance.
I have his name & address, pictures of his car (inc paint transfer onto it from ours !) reg & phone no.
However he said the car was insured in his wifes name & didn't know the insurer.
Assuming that all this is true, am I right in thinking that I contact our insurer, and let them handle it all ?
I know it sounds a bit stupid, but under normal circumstances I'd call the other insurer directly. But as I don't know this, I'm assuming that I contact our insurance co.

Similar situation to me.
Volvo in the adjacent nose on space at Morrisons decided to self ignite and I found out when customer services alerted me at the same time as the Fire Brigade who arrived as I went out to look.
My MGTF had most of its front end plastics melted and a local respray was needed.
Yes - tell the insurance company straight away and let them sort it, especially if you have witnesses.
Even though I was a no fault victim, I had a small increase on my insurance the following year.
Good Luck

You can find out who his insurers are.

I would deal with them directly or with an accident management company rather than use my own insurers. You’re more likely to get it handled quickly and with an appropriate courtesy vehicle.
