Costa overcharging scam/oversight?
Discussion
Apologies if in the wrong section. Wasn't sure if it should go in here, Food n Drink, News or the Lounge, or just the bin.
Not sure if this is a nation wide thing or just my local shop.
Went in yesterday to get 2 drinks, one for me one for the wife. I just had my normal hot choc and for the wife I ordered one of their specials which was a coconut vanilla latte.
I don't usually think about the price as I know its a bit ridiculous but this time I had ordered 2 mediums rather than a large for me and used our own cups (they give you 25p per drink discount for that) so I was expecting the bill to be less than normal so was a bit surprised when it was nearly the same as normal.
So while drinks were being made I totted up what I thought it should have been according to the menu board. I couldn't come to the same price they had, mine was lower so I questioned it. 2 servers with calculators and the manager later they decided I was right.
The discrepancy had come about as their till system did not have an option for the special item coconut vanilla latte so the woman on the till had put it through as its constituent parts so a normal latte + syrups etc which put another 90p on the price.
Just wondering if this is something that happens regularly with all their specials in all their stores. It would probably add up to £millions a year.
Are a business even allowed to sell something if they don't have the means to charge the displayed price for it?

I got ripped off on a pint larger shandy , apparently the way they charge is for a full pint of larger , ( they used peroni so not cheap anyway) and then charged me for 4 dashes of lemonade which by some weird logic is actually more than half a pint of lemonade ! It was over £7 and this is a cheap pub . I googled it and it says it’s a legitimate way to calculate it but I lost half a pint of larger and lemonade. Order a half pint of each and a pint glass to put it in and it’s under half price . Bonkers

Not sure what he thinks that proves - a medium is never filled to the brim like that.https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-12777...

Ha, reminds me of many a cafe I used to call in to get a cuppa using my own Contigo drinking flask.
"That will be 10p more sir"
"Why?"
"Extra Water"
"What about the saving in the polystyrene cup and lid that you now dont have to give me"
"Erm, not thought about that - but its still 10p extra"
"OK, just fill it up the same as disposable cup then",
"Still 10p Extra"
"F**k off, ill go to another cafe"

It is, however, there isn’t a third world problems forum, so don’t worry about it...It’s more of a first world problem. Which yes it is on an individual scale but if it’s a SOP then surely it’s bordering on if not criminal?

I've never heard it mispronounced. I live in the cosmopolitan south east though. Maybe it's different in other regions?
