Yes I`ve been stupid. I`ve had a clean license for over 25 years, the only mark I have was accepting a speed awareness thingy for doing 36 in a 30 about 3 years ago.
Is it best to just accept the points, pay the fine and move on. The fact that it was on a quiet country B road on a lovely Sunday morning will mean nothing I suppose ? Almost all of this route is no limit but for some reason this particular stretch had a 40 limit, and I missed the sign.
By the way I`m 71,my only income is the state and a modest private pension + some savings.

Too fast for a course, not fast enough to be proceeded straight to court.

Expect an offer of 3 points and £100.

It might be accurate (or relevant) if the matter was proceeded to court.

At an alleged 62mph in a 40mph limit (and assuming the OP accepts a fixed penalty), the chances of that happening are vanishingly small.

What other alternatives do you think you have?

If caught and NIPd it is virtually impossible to "get off" unless you are a millionaire footballer with effectively unlimited pots of money. For those of us who are just mere mortals, suck it up.

Precisely - there are none. Quite surprised to even see a post on it, especially from one of our more experienced PHers.

I agree, it was just playing on my mind so I wanted to talk about it. I was also so annoyed with myself because it was a classic speed trap to fall for. Its on the B430 from the M40 to the A34 near Oxford. Used it many times, lonely country road, just farm land for miles. But,there is a section that is for some reason a 40 limit (I stupidly missed the sign). It was a quiet Sunday morning and they were waiting at the end of long straight.

You'll get there just over 50% quicker, that's what.

Extremely unlikely that it’d result in such a cut in journey time. Even on a long straight there are corners at each end that drop the average. On a long journey, many people would be shocked at how little difference to the journey time all that law breaking, and increased risk, noise, stress, brakes, tyres and fuel make.

There are three 40 sections on this road, all with repeater signs. Which one did you miss?

The 40 sections are:

The village of Ardley
RAF Weston-on-the-Green
The village of Weston-on-the-Green

In addition the village of Middleton Stoney is 30

These limits are there for a reason, if you don't know why you should probably pay more attention.

It must have been the airfield bit, long straight nothing much around.

OK guys I will hang my head in shame, pay the fine, accept the points (and pay more insurance?). As I said I`m so annoyed with myself for not paying attention,I`m not a fast driver, most of that morning was spent cruising at 65-70 on the M40. I should have stayed there.

Except three crossroads in quick succession, two agricultural vehicle rental business with their own lay-bys, an antiques shop, various concealed entrances and Oxford Gliding Club featuring low-flying gliders especially on a Sunday.

The main reason for the limit though is the Green Lane/Akeman Street crossroads which has seen 32 collisions in the last 20 years, most of which happened before the 40 limit was introduced.
