Last night was driving home from work too busy avoiding potholes to notice I was doing 36’ish mph whilst driving past a digital camera......FLASH....bkS bkS bkS. I drive past the fking thing every night of the fking week .....What the actual fk was I doing?

So, now can’t stop thinking about the 3 points...to add to my existing 3 and having to tell my insurance company.

I know there’s no point crying over spilt milk and it’s not like I won’t be able to eat for the next 4 years....and I haven’t actually got the letter yet (I’m pretty certain I will as this one camera is responsible for over HALF of the entire camera produced revenue for Surrey on its own!). It just gets to me more than it should and I wanted to share it with some one...or two!

Why won’t they admit that cameras are for revenue and get rid of point system and be done with

Horrible isnt it.

You may well be ok, its not a given.

Then you get the planks like last night, behind a bit of a dawdler in the outside lane of a DC, a Fiat 500 that obviously pulled to the right, doing 60 and an red A45 AMG Saloon goes past at probably double, enough to rock the car.

Not averse to going up the inside but not at full chat, glad the Fiat didnt take it upon itself to move at that moment, no such luck as only moved after three roundabouts, indicated left at the last possible moment to turn right having monopolized the overtaking lane for miles.

Now "Roy 66" in his AMG needs a speeding fine, that was mental.

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you it's all your own fault etc. etc.

We're all human, it happens and it's a bit crappy. As said it's a great money generator. I would imagine you'd at worse get an SP30 which isn't the end of the world, assuming it's your only set of points.

I had a similar moment on the M25 the other night, was overtaking in lane 4 and had some muppet in a Mini faffing about. He was weaving about and just generally driving like a div. Anyway, he pulled out behind me and sat on my bumper so I gave it a quick squirt of acceleration so I could just get pack into the left lanes. Saw a flash but couldn't figure out if it was this idiots LED headlights as he was flashing people or a camera. I was probably tipping 80. Just have to wait and see really.

Or give an option to pay double for no points?

It's just one of the down sides about driving, like a puncture. I can't be arsed to fret about it, far worse things happen in life.

Because then those with money can get away with breaking the limits with impunity?

Of course they are for revenue. But as an unintended sideline they catch speeding motorists as well.driving

My other half set off a camera in December. Not heard anything. No point stressing about what may or may not happen.

This thread has caused an epiphany...it seems obvious now that any form of distraction while driving causes the driver's right foot to depress the accelerator.
I will email DfT directly.
Quite why the Op was driven to exceed the limit while avoiding pot-holes is confusing but that and subsequent distraction-related comments has caused this epiphany. Wow! or...rofl

Wow, a driver that NEVER goes above 30mph in a 30 zone on a ‘Speed Matters’ motoring forum. How positively quaint!

Fingers crossed. I was flashed once on the way somewhere new before Christmas (79/80) on a motorway. Didn’t learn my lesson and saw a speed camera too late (76 - 78) on the way back.
As you say, a few anxious weeks. But no letter arrived. Phew!
I was only keeping up with traffic so I’m not sure of that influenced anything.

Good luck.

I can't see where I said that. Just wondering what speed you may have reached if there were no potholes to avoid.

It seems odd that god-like drivers on "Speed Matters" forums end up with speeding tickets when they start their posts with circumstances that would indicate care should be taken while driving...then say they have been detected as being out of control of their own speed.

If I do get a speeding ticket I will be sure to post up the circumstances for you.
