After some advice here please before I get onto the council on Monday.

Have returned home today to find an attachment of earnings order for a court case in 2010 for unpaid council tax, 9 years Later!!

I am quite financially savvy so have gone back through online bank statements and originals as have been in this house for 14 years and have never missed any payments, before then I was living with ex partners parents then my parents from birth before that.

One of those times I can honestly say I have no Idea.

Is there anything I can find in the mean time, credit reference is spotless and has been for many many years as looked on there, there is no Info about court case on letter and council closed till Monday.

Just after other places to look, Cheers

Unlikely if you've been in the same house all that time, but could it be that you were paying your council tax but the reference number was wrong? I had this after moving house - money was being paid but ref number with the payment hadn't been changed from the one for the old address, so they didn't think they were getting my payments. Que a very snotty letter threatening court, bailiffs, firing squad, etc. like I was some kind of career council tax dodger who needed taking down. Cleared up quickly enough once I explained that I'd been paying and the various factors had been examined.

I had to attend court once as I hadn't paid my council tax for about a year.

The staff there were very confused when I produced all the bank statements with the monthly payments to them. I asked them if I could have a refund of all these payments so I could afford to repay all my council tax!

Anyway, turns out when I changed circumstances a year before (single to joint occupancy) they had accidentally created another account for me, rather than switching it over, so whilst I was paying the new one, the old one stopped receiving payments etc etc.

You could have something similar happening

There would have to be a CCJ for you to receive an attachment of earnings order. Might be worth paying a couple of £ to check the public register and see if you are on there.

Not the case. Council Tax falls into criminal liability and the responsibility of the magistrates court. There will be no CCJ or even credit reports to check or impact.

OP needs to ring or go and see his local council - they do muck it up sometimes.

Just an update as I hate dead threads, called the council yesterday to find out what is going on and got a very unhelpful receptionist and am now awaiting contact from the person who deals with this..... Could be up to a week!!!

Re credit check I have used noodle for a number of years then regularly checked before with different agencies as a few years ago I was the target from a fraudulent pay day loan and thankfully I picked it up a couple of days after the info hit my credit file but still took a good few months to clear.

Depends where you live. In Scotland all that is needed is a Summary Application to the Sheriff Court - Civil, not Criminal. It contains a list of defaulters and a blanket warrant is granted to recover CT from each of them.
