Hi does Mr plod need to be looking through the camera to trap me?

Went past this morning at 55ish in a 50 and saw him in the front seat.

I'd doubt anyone would bother to follow-up a 55 / 50. If you're speedo read 55 it'd be even slower in reality, too.

If the police car was parked up then they'd probably need to be aiming a 'speed gun' of some sort.

Perhaps they were just parked up and weren't doing speed enforcement. Most police aren't trained to use them.

Police cars are equipped with speed detection over distance (so measured 1/4 or 1/2 mile) such as VASCAR (old system) or PUMA (new GPS based) or carry a hand held device (needs to be pointed at you) which they use when parked up. Unlike the USA, the UK Police don't user fixed laser speed detection in traffic cars (camera enforcement vans use a combination radar/photo equipment, but they are static).

Doing 55 in a 50, even an experienced police officer wouldn't know just looking at you.

Also note that static vans have a range of miles, so by the time you see them, it's too late.

This is a sneaky spot tbh, A31 st ives, can't see nothing until you hit the top of the road and then its like rabbit in headlights.

The amount of times I've had cutting me up and undertaking here and wanted plod here I've lost count!

Fingers crossed.

I thought they were supposed to form an opinion that you are speeding before "gunning" you?

How can he do that if they are sitting in the front seat (if the camera is pointing backwards)?

Was it a camera van or just a police car parked up at the side of the road?
Appears you know it's a favourite spot for cameras.
Unfortunately you'll just have to wait it out & see if an NIP drops through the letterbox - assuming you're the registered keeper & all details are current.
