Ebay issue - am I going to lose out?
Discussion
I had this - no accounts linked to paypal after I'd withdrawn it (only £60 but still)....
Told them to go swivel when they sided with the buyer (as i'd expected despite nothing being wrong or them sending it back)...nothing ever happened (beyond a few emails which I told them to sue me for - £60 - they were never going to.....especially given unfair terms/decision) and I haven't used ebay since.

I had this happen with an Xperia phone I sold. I was using it perfectly fine up until I bought a new one and sold it on ebay. It was unlocked, as it had been tied to O2, but I had it unlocked at the phone shop as I changed to 3. My other half also used it briefly when she was between phones, on Vodafone.
I sold it on ebay and the guy messaged back saying his sim wouldn't work and it was locked. I said it's not locked, as I had it unlocked myself and had used O2, 3 and Vodafone sims in it. I repeated it was unlocked and I don't accept returns. He opened an eBay case, guess what happened?
Yes, predictably they sided with him and I had to refund him. It came back missing the headphones. I messaged, complained but got nowhere. He said there weren't headphones, I referred him to the ebay pictures clearly showing them. He failed to respond. EBay did not help, they said I can't prove the headphones weren't returned. I still have the phone in my drawer today as I can't be ased with it all anymore.
OP, I don't fancy your chances I'm afraid.

Ebay can be great, I have sold several thousand pounds worth of stuff over the years, but it doesn't work for everything!
Unfortunately it attracts scammers and scammers love something they can pass on quickly to someone who doesn't care that it is obviously nicked. Phones fit the bill perfectly!
Mobil phones and Ebay do not go together well!

eBay/PayPal will find in favour of the buyer in a dispute.
I sold a LCD screen for a pinball machine on eBay not too long ago. It was a bespoke part that required technical knowledge to install (well, it just required the person buying it to understand how to power it without blowing it up). I showed images and a video of it working on the auction. I put "no returns" in the auction description, and selected it as an option for the listing.
Buyer receives it and is unable to get it working, so opens a dispute. I speak to eBay on the phone and they tell me essentially that "no returns" means nothing. If the buyer opens a dispute as "significantly not as described" or faulty or whatever, you have to take the item back. Whether that item is the same thing you sent or not is another matter. eBay/PayPal will not give you the benefit of the doubt, if the buyer gets tracking when sending the item (or a rock) back to you, they will be satisfied that he/she has complied. i even asked eBay what would happen if he sent back a different or broken item, bearing in mind the item I sold could easily have been damaged or destroyed with the wrong power connections, and they simply said they would "work with me to get to an amicable solution", whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.
It is not worth selling phones on eBay at all unless you refuse to ship it and get payment in cash, and at that point you might as well just use Gumtree. I'm not entirely sure if eBay will even let you not take PayPal on a mobile phone auction anymore.
Last two iPhones I sold I just did them on Gumtree and it was a smooth experience with no comeback.

I realty don’t understand why people use eBay anymore, especially for high value stuff.
The place is full of scum.
Unfortunately society in general always has had a small proportion of bottom feeders, I don't think Ebay is any worse than anywhere else. The place is full of scum.
Judgeing by complaints on the PH forums I think I would place 2nd hand car dealers, parking companies, insurance companies, etc. way above the few problems on Ebay
Be aware that Ebay will refund BOTH of you if you dispute his return claim, and you get your phone back. This is because their 14 day money back guarantee is massively open to abuse. (no returns means nothing now btw, the 14 day money back guarantee trumps this)
I sold phone. Lots of photos showing it working fine. No returns on listing.
10 days later guy says phone is dead, starts return procedue. My funds are frozen.
In ebay emails he confirms he left it flat for a week. Won't charge now.
I show (to ebay) dated pics proving it worked when sent. They still initiate return.
When I get the phone back (which I told ebay I dont' want back - it's his), I stood my ground. Not much of a fight needed. They refunded me, and the buyer.
I have now-broken phone, money for phone. I sell broken phone for spares.
Stress, profit.
Won't do it again.

You came out alright. I'm not sure I would bet that I or someone else wouldn't lose the money though, if eBay decided not to refund, or you didn't have enough proof that it worked, etc. I sold phone. Lots of photos showing it working fine. No returns on listing.

When I sold an iPhone 6S+ on Ebay I took lots of photos fo the packaging, and even took a video of the phone switched on and working, me switching it off and putting it in the box, sealing the box and putting it on some scales. Basically went in assuming I would get scammed and did everything I could think of to try and protect myself. Fortunately in that instance the buyer was ok (although bizarrely never gave me any feedback) but I'm not 100% convinced that I would've been protected in the event something went wrong.
I decided after that that even though nothing went wrong I wasn't going to go through that hassle again when I could just sell it on Gumtree to someone in person, have them inspect it and give me cash and never hear from them again.

I've been buying and selling on ebay for a couple of years so I've had this happen to be a couple of times. The best way to avoid it with general items is to mark it somewhere nearby a serial number with a permanent marker - allowing you to identify that returned items are yours. Be sure to take pictures of these marks but don't include them in the listing. With electronics, record the IMEI/serial/barcode somewhere, and put some tape over one of the screwholes where you would disassemble the item. Make sure you take pictures of this before sending. The 'tamper tape' saved me when I sold a working Xbox 360 a few years back, buyer claimed it wasn't working and was displaying the 'red ring' so I asked him to return it, he refused and raised a case with ebay. After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing with ebay explaining what I'd done, they asked the buyer to provide photos - case was decided in my favour on the basis that the unit had been tampered with post delivery as the tape had been removed from the screwholes behind the faceplate. May have been lucky but I've been doing the same since for some peace of mind.

Sorry your going to lose. I had this with an iPhone that I sold once. Took multiple pictures of the phone. It had been in an otterbox defender case it’s entire life. Took pictures of the phone information scree. Containing imie number along with loads of other information about the phone.
Sold on eBay and got a message saying the screen was cracked. I t was packaged in foam and bubble wrap no way it got damaged in transit. I got forced to take a return by eBay. Upon getting the phone back it wasn’t even the one I sent. Different IMIE number.
I complained to eBay who were no help. The other person said that wasn’t the one they had sent back. They said I must have switched it and they had returned the correct one. eBay were useless. I have never sold a single thing on eBay since. Facebook marketplace or gumtree for me, although I have had numpties turn up and try and negotiate a price reduction after agreeing online. I always stand fast. The price is the price and no I don’t accept instalments as one young lad tried once. He was gobsmacked when I said yes he could pay in instalments but he couldn’t take the item (camera) until the final payment was made.

These days I've taken to leaving the package open when I go to the post office, and filming the contents, the sealing and the handing over to the post office clerk...sad really.

Have to agree with the above, I sold an iphone clear photos and clearly listed as not working so spares or repairs. A couple of days after receiving the buyer opens a dispute stating 'phone doesn't work!' and yes ebay sided with the buyer Sold on eBay and got a message saying the screen was cracked. I had already transferred the funds from my Paypal and unlinked my card so was now in arrears as I had to pay for return P&P for something that never arrived! told ebay to swivel so they set their dogs on me (Transcom) which increased the debt, after a few emails back and fourth I received a letter from Transcom stating 'ebay have now asked us to close this account'.
Both my Paypal and Ebay accounts were closed ( I had 100% positive feedback)

Nothing I guess, in my case after doing some research on the buyers feedback it looked like they were buying faulty phones for a low price with the intention to repair and sell on for a profit, they even messaged me stating they had taken the phone into Apple who said the phone was a fake, I asked for proof of this but none was provided. Once the dispute was opened it took ebay 20mins to side with the buyer irrelevant of them knowing it was sold as faulty for spares or repairs! If it was a fully working Samsung phone which you purchased recently - I assume it wasn't your Galaxy S7 that you bought in November?
