Afternoon all,

I don't want this to descend into madness so will keep this short and sweet.

Will a rear washer jet not supplying water fail a mot, rear wiper works.

Not a issue of repair, more to settle something.

Check mot test manual and can't seem to fond anything.

Thanks.

Really?

It's not a legal requirement to be able to see out of a rear window.

Not in the manual.
Not a 'windscreen'.
Not a testable item.

No - my BMW E46 went through 3 MOTs with a non-functioning rear wiper!

No not a fail....although saying that I had a mondo that failed its Hackney test due to rear wiper blade split but that’s a different and stricter test, things such as condition of interior carpet, window operation, seat condition etc come into play with my local licensing authority.

No - neither the washer or wiper on the rear of our T4 camper work (or indeed have ever worked since we bought it 5 years ago, so it's been through at least four MOTs). There's no point in fixing it as the rock'n'roll bed means that visibility out of the back is approximately zero anyway.

You can all read the manual, then conduct a poll. smile

If you can't be arsed...

3.5 Windscreen washers
You don't need to inspect windscreen washers on vehicles with:
- an opening windscreen
- some other means of providing the driver with an adequate view through the windscreen to the front, left and right
Washers must provide enough fluid for the wipers to clear the windscreen effectively.

Defect - Windscreen washers not working or not providing sufficient fluid to clear the windscreen
Category - Major

Afternoon all,

In my experience, the rear wiper will not have any influence on whether a car will pass or fail its MOT. The front wipers/washers obviously need to be in good working order to get through.

Hope this is of some use
