I'm about to buy a small van simply for tip runs and taking hay down to the yard for our horses. Ive read various forums and people claim that you can move your car NCB over to a van fine but only a handful of insurers will move a van NCB back over to a car

Since the van I will be buying will be used for SDP purposes only and will be going on a "private van insurance" policy as opposed to "commercial van insurance"... Am I right in thinking that this doesn't apply and providing I don't take out a commercial policy, I can transfer between a van and a car as often as I like without losing any NCB?

I considered the same, but you need a permit for the local tip with a van or trailer..

I think it was something like 12 visits a month

When I moved from navarra to 3008 my insurer didn't care as long as the ncb was in my personal name and not a company name.

Done bia the specialist unit of A Plan at Thatcham as they also insure my kit

I think it was 12 a year in Hertfordshire at least...

Moving no claims wasn't an issue although this was some years ago. What you will probably find though is you wont get third party cover on other vehicles.

I'm not sure you will find a consensus. NCB is just a nonsense thing. Insurance companies give it with varied rules and insurance companies take it with different varied rules.
