A quick question for those with more of a clue than me!

I got back to my car (having paid and displayed) to find a penalty charge notice. Initially furious, but (having opened it) it's not for my car - details a red Seat with a different reg to my green BMW!

Can I just ignore it, or should I call up and confirm with someone that it was on my car in error? Merton borough may be "moving ahead", but pre-emptive parking tickets are a bit too forward looking for my taste!

Cheers,

Dan

Same reg though?

Thats going to be the key I reckon.

They are absolute swines around Wimbledon arent they.

Sounds like the details are too wrong for them to stand any chance of tracing you...

Sleeping dogs come to mind, as do hungry bins...

You paid and displayed.
Ticket is for a different make of vehicle, different colour and different VRM.
Looks as if someone has stuck it on your vehicle in jest?

Retain that ticket. Consider doing nothing. If fine is not paid then LA will send Notice to Owner to whoever is the Reg keeper of the Seat not you. But if they send one to you (because Warden has made a mistake and has got your number) then you have great grounds for contesting.

Cheers DVD - that's pretty much what I thought, but it's always nice to have older and wiser heads confirm it! I can't see how they'd find me, considering all the details are different (the only similarity is that they're both R reg cars - it's not as if the plate's been mis-read given the big difference in VRM details).

Anyone know how long they have to send me a follow up letter?

Any chance you could trace the owner of the SEAT? I can just imagine that he will get an inflated fine for not paying promptly and will then begin the argument of "There was no ticket on my car officer etc etc".
Or you could notify the council of the mistake so that they may have more leniency (is that a pig flying past?) on the SEAT owner. If you use the carpark regularly look out for the SEAT, just being PH!

Any chance the Seat owner put it on your car in the mistaken thought that you'd pay it rather than them? Could be trying to dodge it.

You never know - I was all set to post a rude note back including my parking sticker/ticket to make them go away before noting the car info.

No chance of me seeing the car again - it's not a car park I use regularly. I might give them a bell to let the know tho'.

Cheers for the advice/thoughts folks.
