Not unexpectedly harsh - the courts really do not like PCOJ and do deal with it very robustly. He isn't the first to be jailed for this
Here is one from 2015 for example

Pathetic. It’s better to rob houses or commit GBH than be caught speeding these days. And before the speed kills brigade arrive, I k ow it’s not ‘just’ speeding but a very naughty crime. You’d get less for selling cannabis, just shows what a bunch of self righteous and totally disconnected Police force is all about these days. Utter disgrace.
The thing is all this does is say to people that you can buy a jammer and they work. They caught this guy with it still on his car even after he knew he had been caught, had he removed it and waited then what would they have done, and how long before some bright spark comes up with one that is undetectable?
As others have said they treat this far more seriously than what most would say is a crime deserving of police time and the sentence is one that is vindictive to scare others from using one. It would have been better for society to have him do community service rather than sat in a cell.

But he wasn’t done for speeding, was he?Perverting the course of justice is a really stupid thing to be done for, and the courts have always taken a very dim view of people taking the piss out of them.

I’d prefer the limited resources to be used on solving serious crime. I’m sure lying to the old bill regarding 3t of heroin in the garage is slightly more serious than avoiding an SP50. But it’s clear where the priorities lie? The only mistake he made was to bother with a front number plate if he felt like this. ....andyet when this charmer came to court in November last year ( despite yards of previous) the judge gave him a suspended sentence

Festus Onasanya was convicted of PCoJ and wasn't even trying to avoid a motoring offence.

Crikey, bought my first Ferrari off Nick. He took me to Maranello on a factory visit at the time and me wife and I were his guests at the Autosports Awards show recently too so I've spent some time with him. Nice chap.
Daft decision to have one of those jammers fitted though. Company car too, never get work in a premium dealership again I expect. Just not worth messing with PCoJ offences.
In a 'shoulda gone to specsavers' style, shoulda called AGT!

It doesn't matter what offence he was trying to avoid, he was done for PCoJ.

Yes. I know the definition of draconian.

Why is pleading not guilty and being found guilty not pcoj?
How about denying nicking a bicycle Which is found in your possession, pcoj?
I think it and the conspiracy to commit laws incredibly open to misuse.

If the penalties for attempting to lie your way out of trouble aren't severe, there's no incentive not to do so. PCoJ being as harsh as it is is critical to ensure that people actually accept it when they've been caught breaking the law in a relatively minor way, since the consequences of lying and being caught are more significant than the consequences of accepting fault. Do you really not understand that?
So if you drive without a front plate. How isn’t that pcoj? It’s just absolute Police bs jailing someone on this charge ‘in respect’ to a speeding conviction, which is what this is. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
