GDPR & invalid claim against my Insurance policy
Discussion
Looking for some guidance please;
Someone called up my insurers regarding an accident, with the same name and raised a claim even though the handler realised the DOB and occupation was incorrect. This claim is now recorded against my Policy and I have also had changes made to my policy around my occupation. I've spoken with them regarding this and they have confirmed that they are going to update everything to rectify this issue.
Given, according to them, that the claim was recognised to be against the wrong policy and closed, only to subsequently change my occupation and confirm that the claim is recorded against my record, what can I request to ensure that they have rectified my record? I've asked for confirmation in writing that this has been done but other than their word is there some other assurances I can ask for in regards to evidence? Should I be requesting my records as a data subject to ensure this is resolved?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure a Subject Access Request might get you the result you want. I've not seen an actual example what sort of information is returned (I should try it sometime!), but for example if there is an audit trail of changes it might still show the old information and that it was removed/reverted, but it might be hard to understand and work out how it relates to the active policy. I'd think most companies would never delete ALL data relating to something like that because they still need a factual record/history of what occurred.
I'd think it would be sufficient to ask them to list what changes were made between the dates in question, and for them to confirm that they have all been reverted to the correct details, and for them to confirm if the details were forwarded to any external parties and that the corrections have been made there.
If you aren't happy with the response you could consider raising a complaint, where I'm pretty sure it will be looked at more thoroughly.

Thanks Bompey, should this prove that I have been removed from the Central insurers Database?
To check that you would have to ask the Motor Insurance Bureau.They run the claims database called CUE.
If you search their website there is a page on how to get your information. Think it costs a tenner.
