New car on finance, extras added
Discussion
Evening,
I purchased a new (to me) car yesterday from a car supermarket.
I'm happy with the car, no issues so far.
When we were sorting the finance out the sales person said that included in the price is GAP insurance, 24 month warranty and alloy wheel insurance. I asked if they could be taken out. I was told that they are included and i specifically asked if it would be the same price with and without the extras. He said yes.
I've got home and had a proper chance to look at the paperwork and notice all the extras add up to £1,625. The car should have been £11,600. The finance is for £13,375 minus £600 for my part ex.
I've sent them a email asking them to phone me, but going to phone when i get back from work tomorrow.
Have i left it to late? I did question it at the time but was told it was included, perhaps a little silly by myself!
Thanks

Given all 3 will be insurance contracts, you will have a 14-day cooling off period in which you can cancel them. Whether that gets refunded to you or directly to the finance company is another question (that I have no idea the answer to).
You will get it sorted whoever gets repaid, just a bit of extra hassle now!
Good luck

How much was the car when you looked at it and agreed to buy it? 11.6? Or 13?
Why on earth didn't you read the finance docs you were signing?
Balls to phoning them, I'd be down there in person waiting for them to open.
Car was advertised at £12k, but i was given £600 for my old shed. Taking it down to the £11,400. Why on earth didn't you read the finance docs you were signing?

I've got work until 1500 so can't go up when they open. Can go up tomorrow if needed however.

Surely you noticed that the price you saw the car for (11.6k) and the price you signed for (13.3) were different?

Call back from them. I've been charged for it.
They are looking at the best way of sorting it out. Cancelling the current finance and starting again or refunding me the extra. However I'll be paying interest on that. Might see if they can pay me the difference plus the interest. Saves me a three hour round trip.
Pleased at how they are dealing with it.

If the finance is cancelled you’ll need to go to the dealership to sign a new agreement. They have to be signed on trade premises. They are looking at the best way of sorting it out. Honestly i thought it was just a s
t interest rate, and when i asked if it would be the same with or without them i expected them to tell the truth. Rather silly i know.
It’s this last bit that amazes me. When entering into any sort of finance agreement, isn’t the first objective to negotiate the finance costs as low as possible? How could you not know the cost of finance and it’s impact on the principal?
Lesson to be learnt here I think....

Lesson learned yep. However, I'm not great with maths and dyslexia makes reading tricky. Hence going over it fully at home when i can take my time. Lesson to be learnt here I think....
Manager is going to phone me back tomorrow once he's spoken to the finance company.

Not anymore, has been like that for some years now. I would request that the agreement as it is, is cancelled and a new agreement is set up without the extras.
I would be calling the finance company directly as well as the car dealer, you can't trust that the manager is going to do it and given the shoddy practice already you can't trust you will get a straight answer from the manager at the moment.
I may be doing the manager an injustice but I'd play it safe and cover every avenue

Tell them that you are drafting an email to the fca/ombudsman about this and you specifically asked about the price without. They will soon be trying to sort it out.
So far the manager is doing everything he can do. Phoned me half an hour after the dealership opened. Said straight away they will refund it. Of course, it could go to s
He said he'll be phoning them tomorrow and will get back to me tomorrow (or another manager who i dealt with yesterday).
Not going to jump a head with FCA and FOS etc. Will see how it goes tomorrow

That’s all sounding good. I’d be confirming the conversation by email though. Best to have everything in writing.
