Discussion
Its becoming increasingly obvious that the creeping influences of the so called "safety" camera partnerships is finding its way into everyday language on this (relatively hostile to cameras) board.
I refer of course to the mis-term, "Safety camera".
Its NOT a goddam "safety" camera its a SPEED CAMERA!
Please ensure you call it a SPEED CAMERA in any referneces to them as its getting ingrained into peoples everyday language, theyre saying it without even realising it!
SPEED CAMERA!
Thank you...:hehe:

I share your ire, DF and you are emphatically justified in raising this issue: too much (unconscious) acceptance of leftish propagandizement is the peril of Albion's contemporary age and it is Champions of The Sectus Arthurium - like your eminent self - to whom we should all give supplication for illuminating the darkened way...
'Safety Cameras' my backside: Communist Ideology Enforcemnt Drones, more like; unyielding bastions of tight arsed weeners the world over.

All hail DF!

There's no need for self-effacement, Great Fox: there is naught immodest in accepting a hugely obvious role as one of, if not the, pre-eminent benefactor-at-arms for the (presumably) violent supression of those who would withhold the restitution of our motoring liberty across the whole of Albion...and beyond.
Hail to thee!
Hail to thee!

'ere, steady on Der old chap! not all us Socialist dogs are the same y'know! After all, what real "peoples party" would oppress the masses so. This is a Tory Gov. with Tory ideals and a Tory leader, in a Tory world, "1984" an' all that!
You heard George Galloway the other day. We flooded our mines with 300 years of coal beneath our feet to import more oil and foriegn coal even to this day to fuel our power stns, when there was an alternative of clean coal burning available. OK, it's a fossil fuel, but what's Oil then? The USA doesn't think this way.
And who did it?.........That nice Mrs Thatch. Not exactly a "lefty" was she? Go to room 101 immediately for a spell of "correction". :thatcher-smiley: Hail! Big Sister!
Er..hem! Sorry Der, got carried away there.

Got to take exception to the first part of this. This is by no means a 'Tory' or even Thatcherite govenment (even if Bliar has pretentions that way).
A Tory govenment would never tax and spend like this lot, never attack civil liberties with such venom, never inflict so many regulations, never damage the constitution so badly, never bend over to Europe so easily etc. etc.
Basically we have the worst of both worlds with NuLab.
Withdrawal symptoms perhaps, from care-free motoring.
So according to regulations, cameras are indeed Speed Cameras, but the scamerships think it's better to say "safety" cameras.
This is their descriptions of the fixed cameras.

Q. What is a "safety" camera?
A. Safety camera is the generic term given to fixed, mobile and red light cameras. Although the fixed sites will always be signed “speed cameras” due to road traffic regulations, the term safety cameras is much broader and better suited to explaining why the cameras are in place. The overall aim is safety: to reduce the number of people seriously injured and killed on our roads as a result of speed.

Gatso — uses radar to detect the speed of passing vehicles and takes a photograph of the rear. These were the first speed cameras and Maurice Gastonides, a rally driver and winner of the Monte Carlo Rally in 1953, founded the Gatsometer company in 1959. The camera is activated as the vehicle crosses a radar beam and takes two photographs half a second apart, therefore the time taken to travel the distance shows the speed of the vehicle. White line markings on the road surface (five feet apart) provide a secondary back up check on distance travelled, and this is verified by an operator who examines the camera film.
Truvelo — uses sensors embedded in the road to measure the speed of oncoming vehicles and is able to photograph both the front and rear of vehicles. The system works out how fast the vehicle is travelling according to the information received from the loops in the ground. The vehicle speed is calculated the moment the front axle crosses the last loop, but a photograph is only taken when it reaches a marker line 1.8m beyond this point. The time taken to travel the 1.8m is recorded on the negative alongside the speed. An operator also checks the photograph manually.
