How to speed up a police investigation.

One of my family has been victim to a serious financial crime which has, as far as we can establish, left her penniless. I don't want to go into too many details beyond that.

The matter was reported to the police earlier this week, but they have not been in touch. So they were called again this morning. The call handler said, "this sounds serious, I will speak to the head of the investigation team and they will be in touch". Thus far, no one has been in touch.

Time was that I would pick up the phone to the sergeant at the local station and have a word in his ear. But I am sure that I am out of touch on that score.

Any pointers please, especially from anyone in the job?

The force dealing with it is not local to anyone else in the family. Is there any point in going into a nick in the Midlands to complain about a force in the south? I am guessing not.

Knowing the police I would get a private investigator. I had a fraud and did the investigation myself, by the time I had the interview I gave them the perps name and address, they had a few minor details.

We know who did it and have given the police the name, address, car reg. Outside of wrestling the perpetrator to the ground and marching them to the nick we can do little more to help.

Far enough. Maybe go down the nick it's being investigated from and give them this information, worth a shot.

You may be lucky to even have it investigated.

Its not uncommon for people to be left penniless through fraud.

Although if you know who did it then its more promising than a random scam through the internet.

Police will almost always tell you to log it with Actionfraud also.

Or they may advise to call the correct force which is the best course of action.

Police should commence an investigation as well as referring to Action Fraud.

I think there may be. I also think that the perpetrator may still have some of the money, which they probably won't soon.

Action Fraud are even more useless than the police and that's an achievement in itself. The police won't do anything to investigate it. All they'll do is tell you to contact Action Fraud and/or your bank.

What force is it. The met are still trying to catch up from the demo's, so not much is being done if anything at the moment.
The met are rubbish at fraud and will try and throw most things straight to action fraud.

No it won't, the OP will be told to pick up the phone and speak with the dealing force.

OP: where I work it can sadly take weeks for crimes to be allocated to an investigating officer.

Phone 101 and speak to the dealing force and tell them about the funds possibly still being with the offender. What kind of value are we talking about?

What evidence is there beyond that this person may still have some of the money? Can it reasonably traced back to source?

It’s a 5 figure sum and it’s not the Met.
