In Salisbury a previous NSL that I can not remember ever having any crashes, was dropped to 40mph whilst they repaired a railway bridge. That work finished at the start of the year and yet the limit has been left at 40mph. Yesterday I heard a rumour that the reason was that when the lampposts were replaced (and they were, recently) some clot put in the wrong ones - they apparently put in posts that were only approved to withstand an impact of 40mph, and due to the cost of replacing them, it has been deemed a better idea to just leave the limit at 40mph. This may or may not be a complete myth, but does this sound like something that would happen? Are lampposts really approved for different speeds?

Thanks

David

Check the Order making the 40 limit Dave. If it was only a temporary limit then once the works have been completed and the restriction signs have been left out then the limit is illegal.
